We did a taste test with 4 people - 2 adults,.2 children. In this blind taste test, we compared a traditional lox bagel on an everything bagel from two Charlotte area bagel shops -- Manhattan Bagel (Arboretum) and Poppy's Bagels (Providence Rd). See pic below, left side is Poppy's Bagel sample and right side is the one from Manhattan. Results? Every single person gave a thumbs up to the Poppy's Bagel in the blind taste test. 4 to 0. The Poppy's Bagel won on overall texture and taste quality. The Poppy's Bagel tomato was firm and tasty, while the Manhattan Bagel tomato wasn't fresh and two of the taster's noted a a slimy texture to the Manhattan Bagel. Poppy's Bagel lox was vibrant salmon color and the Manhattan Bagel lox was a dull pink. The everything bagel itself from Poppy's Bagels was the clear winner with exquisite taste and texture -- the whole motivation to get up on a crisp fall morning and drive over to purchase some freshly baked bagels for the family. Nice to have a NYC quality bagel in Charlotte. Thanks Poppy's.

I agree with everyone who has said that these are the best bagels in Charlotte. As a former New Yorker myself, I know a good bagel. While the interesting flavors they offer at Panera and those other chains are... interesting... the stuff they have here at Poppy's is the real deal. Everything, Sesame, Pumpernickel, all the classic flavored bagels and they're all large and fresh and fluffy with the great chewy and crunchy bagel texture that they are supposed to have. Tip: spend an extra buck and get the salmon spread on your toasted bagel. It's probably not the sort of place where you sit around all day, like a Starbucks or Panera, but it's nice for a quiet coffee (good coffee, by the way!) and a friendly meet with your buddies. In the nicer weather, sit outside in the sun.

First time at Poppy's and wow! This place is great. The food delicious! I never had such a delicious bagel in life. Made fresh and perfect. The staff was doing great making sure people were practicing social distancing by having only a few enter at a time. All the staff were wearing mask and doing their best to follow safety precautions. This place is crazy busy but well worth the wait! Michelle was sweet and greeted me. Everyone in the front provided great customer service! Since it was my first time the whole staff was kind and welcomed me hello. Sue made my bagel sandwich and boy was it amazing! Don't miss out on those holiday cookies either. My daughter loved them. I will be back and make sure to let everyone know about this gem!

On 8/29 I had an early job that was placing me on a route that gave me the option to get Breakfast at what used be my favorite sandwich and Bagel shop in Charlotte for the past how ever many years they have been open. So I jumped in my van at 6:30AM and headed to Poppies. I call them up and a very crass young lady named Brittany answered the phone. She informed me that they don't do take out orders over the phone and that I needed to text her the order. I explained to her that I was driving and that I couldn't text and I was in hurry and I really needed the order ready when I arrived. Her response was a very unsencier "Sorry" she couldn't do anything to help. I thought that was pretty lame. So I called my co worker who I was getting breakfast for also and asked him to text it in. So he texted it and let me know the order was a go. I arrive at poppies, there's one other person in the whole place, and I walk up to the register and ask for my order. Same rude young lady that answered the phone is at the register. She looks around and says I don't see your order and tells me she can take it again and it would be ready in 5min. I told her I was very sorry, but I didn't have time to wait and that I was not happy about the way the whole take out order thing was being handled, I asked her name and at that point she just turns away and ignores me. So I had to ask another one of her coworker for her name so I could include her in this review. Thanks for ruining a long relationship and the start of my day Brittany. Message to the owners, I know it's hard to find good help these days, but you shouldn't give up...

I have been coming here for years, and finally had to post a (hopefully) constructive review today. The inefficiencies here are shocking. If someone orders a dozen bagels to go, the person who takes the order should simply turn around, throw the bagels in a bag, and hand it back to the customer so they can be on their merry way. If they also order cream cheese, those should already be pre-scooped for to-go orders so you can just grab it and hand it to the person. There is no reason to have someone who is just getting bagels wait behind 20 sandwich orders. It backs up the line, makes the place way too crowded, and irritates everyone. This should be a very easy fix. Additionally, unless someone specifically asks for their bagels to each be individually sliced and wrapped in parchment paper, that should not be the go to. It takes way more time, and those bagels will get stale faster if they aren't being eaten right away.

Today I ordered two everything bagels to go with 1/2 lb of cream cheese and it took 15 minutes. There was no one behind me in line, so the person taking orders could have thrown my bagels in a bag and gotten me cream cheese within 60 seconds, but was instead just standing there doing nothing for 10 minutes until the next customer came in.

I have faith that you guys can do better. It will improve everyone (including your employees' experience). Thank you for your...

Sad to see how far this place has fallen. Rude staff and overpriced for the quality of food received. Went to breakfast with friends this morning and had one of the worst customer service experiences that I have ever had in Charlotte. The three of us placed our orders one after the other with no problem. Their food came out of the kitchen in a reasonable amount of time, but my order was delayed. Now you might think, ok it must have been a special order - no it was an egg and cheese bagel, nothing special. I went to the front to ask about the status and got told by a person from the kitchen that they were running behind, but he would not, or could not, tell me anything specific about the status of my order. So I started to ask one of the counter people to simply check if my order had been lost or delayed. (I was not the first person to do this either, I witnessed two other customers ahead of me asking about the same issue.) Well, the kitchen person overheard me asking for an update and got upset and quite aggressive in telling me that it's not their problem and I will just have to wait. He even went so far as to throw a couple insults my way. I did eventually get my order after my friends had finished their meals, unfortunately it was ok at best. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but after this experience I will not be...
