Good atmosphere, great service, average food, good drink options. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting this location since the staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was nicely laid out. Currently, it's limiting when it comes to safe distance options, so the open wall to the outside along with the spacious interior allows for easy seating without feeling any pressure from being too close to others.
The walk up bar order and then pickup options are perfect since it allows the visitor to get drinks immediately from the bar while enjoying your seat wherever you choose and then pick up your food whenever it is ready.
The food options are better than expected for a bar and the quality definitely meets the expectations for the SouthEnd area. Some items aren't superior but still meet the expectations, like the Philly cheese steak that I ordered during my first visit and the chicken strips which my friend ordered. Both met the expectations of the order but neither were surprising or unique. For the cheesesteak, the bun was good but not a standard northern hoagie bun for sure and the meat was good and decent quality, but I am also rather picky when it comes to cheesesteak hoagies so I can't say it is anything different from what I'd expect being in the south.
I later went back on the recommendation from management so I could try the hand pies. If you aren't familiar with a hand pie, they say it's like a fried calzone, which is a good description except for the exterior of the hand pie which is not made with a dough similar to a calzone, but instead is much closer to a traditional empanada if you've had one. It's thicker, crispier, and the bread has more flavor than what a calzone's thin dough layer would have. It's nicely drizzled with a Midwest ranch-like dressing and the filling varies, but was chicken, bacon, ranch when I went. Though this place is not somewhere I'd visit specifically for a cheesesteak hoagie, I would absolutely go back for their hand pies.
I was also surprised by the quality of ingredients in their "Greek" sandwich. After having ordered and shared the hand pies I didn't want anything too heavy so I ordered the Greek sandwich with a side of cucumber salad. This sandwich surprised me with the quality ingredients from a place I was not initially wowed by with their cheesesteak.
I got chicken for my protein which was nicely seasoned and grilled, the feta cheese was quality versus the often rubbery feta, it had freshly cut cucumbers and the black olives were full olives sliced in half and de-pitted, giving the opportunity for more of the "Greek" seasoning to be soaked up by the olive - increasing the flavor of each bite.
The cucumber salad was also done better than I anticipated with a nice balance of herbs and seasoning as the base layer and quality flavors that didn't make the salad too busy or overwhelming with dressing like some places do.
I initially said I would go back for the drinks and atmosphere, but after a second round based on a recommendation from the owner, I'll return here again for the food as well, especially the Greek sandwich and...
Read moreAwesome! I've been here a number of times and can't say enough positive things. It is truly what the area needs--a cool neighborhood bar that knows what it is and sticks to it. Props have to start with the owners (Jay and Ashley)! You can tell the place is managed well with a positive and upbeat culture among the staff. The bartenders are all super friendly and attentive. They always seem to be paying attention to the crowd, who may need a drink, etc. They are not obsessed with other bar tasks that can and should take a back seat (stuff that SO many places just miss). So nice work Kelly (manager), Carolyn, Evan, Ross, Kayla, Tiffany, Kodi and Brenda. There are others but this is the crowd that I've run into most so far. The place is clean and again someone is always looking for empty glasses or cleaning areas for the next customer to feel welcome, etc. The bathrooms are consistently clean too--you name it! Another key thing is excellent social media communication; Facebook is constantly updated with lineups of key sporting events, specials and Panther ticket giveaways from time to time as well. And a great touch is noting which game will have the sound on (a simple but brilliant idea that I don't see anywhere else consistently!). Again people paying attention to details, knowing what games should be on TVs even when there isn't a huge slate of games. Some of what I've noted here may sound fundamental but not near enough places get it! The atmosphere is great too--cozy, good bar seating, community standing spots, TVs in all sorts of spots and a nice open air window to the sidewalk running the length of the building with a counter rail and bar seats. Thankfully this is NOT the sorta place that has a DJ which drives a vibe that is just old and overdone if you ask me! The food is good and reasonably priced with some unique takes for a neighborhood bar. Plenty of drink options along with cold draft and canned craft beer. Keep up the good work and attention to detail everyone! It matters and your customers...
Read moreLet's start this off like this...Queen City Pour House (QCPH) IS MY WATERING HOLE & BY FAR, ONE OF THE BEST BARS IN SOUTH END (I have loyalty to a couple of other places but this is def top five (5) for sure). It's conveniently located in the heart of South End on the corner of Tremont Avenue and Hawkins Street right down the street from Common Market (CM) South End, Bang Bang Burger, Sycamore Brewery, Hawkers, Shake Shack, Elsewhere, etc...It's in the core of South End.
Atmosphere: QCPH always keeps the bar + restrooms + outside area immaculate. I never have to worry about fruit flies and just foul conditions because they keep it pure and unsullied. From the windows --- to the walls ---- QCPH is a place where you don't have to worry about a nasty environment.
Staff: Probably some of the best staff in South End. Every bartender/bar-back/owner (J) are always not only professional and knowledgeable about their products, but all around amiable. Every time I go there, I feel like they are my family and you don't get that at a lot of places. I am a regular, but still, la familia for sure.
Food & Beverages: 1-10....11+ for sure. They know their stuff. I've tried some of their items but my favorite by far, and the most original, are the hand-pies. So fu3kin' delicious and inexpensive for South End. Definitely worth the try. My friends always purchase the burgers or chicken tenders & it's always a win-win-WON situation.
All in all, I would recommend, and I do, Queen City Pour House to all of my friends and family. It's definitely on the best neighborhood spots and I am a frequent visitor. Thanks for being some fu3kin' amazing and basically my 'kindred' folk.
Cheers MATE$! ...:::...
