I had the pleasure of dining at Roz Grill with a couple friends in the Arboretum Shopping Center off Providence Road. This Jordanian-inspired Middle Eastern restaurant has quickly found its place among my favorite spots in Charlotte. Conveniently located with plenty of free parking, Roz Grill offers a flavor-packed menu that delivers both in quality and portion size—trust me, you’ll leave with leftovers.
Our table decided to dive into the menu by ordering a dish from nearly every section, with the exception of the soups and salads. We started with a basket of their house-made pita, which arrived hot and fresh from the oven. While the pita was delicious, I personally prefer a fluffier version. However, the whipped feta it accompanied was absolutely delightful—rich, creamy, and perfectly tangy. The hummus was some of the best I’ve had in Charlotte, incredibly smooth and without a hint of grittiness.
The falafel, though, was the real star of the starters. Perfectly fried with a crispy exterior and a moist, herbaceous green center, it easily ranks as my favorite in the city. The Roz Bites were a pleasant surprise—crispy fried spinach and cheese balls that, while perhaps not traditionally Mediterranean, were well worth the order. I didn’t get to sample the kibbeh(not pictured) myself, but my dining companions raved about it. They described it as having a fried shell akin to a chewier arancini, with a savory, well-seasoned beef and onion filling that was perfectly complemented by a side of tzatziki.
For the main course, I opted for the mixed kebab entree. You get to choose two different halal meats (options include shrimp, kofta, chicken, or lamb), which are marinated in a house seasoning that’s both tasty and aromatic. I went with the chicken and lamb combo, served over yellow rice. The rice was fragrant with a strong turmeric flavor, making it a great base for the tender, flavorful meats. The kebab platter also included red onion, a whole jalapeño pepper, and a wedge of tomato, along with garlic and tzatziki sauces for dipping. The portion size was generous enough to easily make two meals out of it.
While we were too full to indulge in dessert, Roz Grill does offer a few sweet treats like baklava, which I’ll definitely be saving room for on my next visit. Overall, Roz Grill has quickly climbed to the top of my list for Mediterranean cuisine in the Queen City. Roz Grill is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to exploring more...
Read moreMy daughter had dined here a few weeks ago with a friend, and right after she texted me to look at the online menu. I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern cuisine, and I immediately chose about eight things I just HAD to try.
First, the service. The gracious host tried to seat us at two different tables, but the first was right next to what would be a very large party, and the second was right next to the kitchen door. I spotted one next to the window, and she led us there and handed us our menus. Our server, Margo, came over shortly after and mentioned the fresh fruit bar, but my daughter ordered hot cardamom tea and I wanted all the room for the food I was about to eat! My girl had split the Spicy Potato appetizer with her friend when they were there and she said it was delicious, so we ordered that to start. They were exactly as advertised; hot and spicy, and oh, so delicious, and Margo was spot on with every step of service.
I ordered the Kofta Kebab for my entree and my daughter ordered the Fattoush salad, plus she said we had to have warm pita, so we added it. Years ago I worked at a Persian restaurant in Reno and I'd fallen in love with the food. My meal was very similar to what was called Koobedeh on our menu. It came with a choice of saffron or cilantro-lime rice, a grilled onion, jalapeño and tomato wedge and a ramekin of tzatziki. It was phenomenal, and of course I had to take over half of it home. My daughter also very much enjoyed both her salad and her tea.
I was torn between the Kofta and Shakshuka, so I'll probably get that on our next trip, though the Fried Chicken is also intriguing.
From the food to the service to the decor, everything was PERFECT, and I'm definitely adding this to my list of why I want to move back to Charlotte! Can't wait...
Read moreNewer Restaurant in the area, so we gave it a try. Sorry that we did. The environment is a barely dressed up store front space in a strip mall. Initial greeting took several minutes, which caused us to bring out the phone with the timer to start clocking the experience milestones. We ordered chicken tenders for the kids first, to keep them busy. Waiter left to place order. (Six minutes to return for rest of order) placed three entree orders. Lamb shank, and two chicken kebabs, and a basket of naan bread. Restaurant began to fill up. Bread delivered within a few minutes. The kid’s meal did not arrive. We waved down the waiter (he was busy taking many orders from new tables) and his response was that it would be coming soon. No apology when he walked away. We started noticing tables that had walked in after us were receiving their meals. 25 minutes later we asked about ALL our meals. His response? “I’ll bring it when it’s ready.” 10 minutes later the two chicken kebabs arrived. A few minutes later the lamb shank arrived. And then…a few minutes after that…the first item we ordered, the kids meal, was delivered. Last. No apology. The kebabs were okay, nothing spectacular. Similar to what you could prepare at home. The lamb shank ($27) had almost no meat on it and was served in a bowl of vegetable broth, with a ridiculously large plate of basmati rice on the side. The lamb was tough and bland. The rice, although well seasoned, was very dry. Check service was awkward. When we asked for the bill he pulled out his handheld ordering device and gave us a total, as though expecting payment off a verbal quote. We asked for a printed copy and we paid from that. We...
