Ate at Sushiya today for lunch and would like to start by saying the food I was able to eat was pretty good. Tofu appetizer, salad, and miso soup all good. Unfortunately I did have a bit of trouble with the hibachi chicken. I am recently diagnosed diabetic and still navigating what I can and can’t eat, but hibachi foods have been generally safe for me. Because of this I didn’t think to ask what their difference is between teriyaki and hibachi dishes on their menu.
When the food came out, I noticed the sauce on the meat and veggies was thicker and sticky like a glaze which usually means sugar. Husband went up to ask what the sauce ingredients were and if we could see nutrition labels. They couldn’t do this because it was a house made sauce which is fair. I went up and explained diagnosis and that I can’t have sugary sauces and asked if there was sugar in the sauce. Finally got an answer that yes, there is sugar in the sauce. I was flustered and overwhelmed since I’m still new to the diabetes world, so I just asked for a box and figured husband could eat it for lunches through the week.
When she brought the box, she did offer to remake the food with no sauce, but I was overwhelmed and declined. In hindsight, I appreciated the offer though, so 4 stars for service.
The server explained that at their restaurant the difference between “teriyaki” and “hibachi” on the menu is one is made with dark meat and one is white meat. They are otherwise prepared the same way. Wanted to leave a review to let others know this because that’s not the norm at most other restaurants I’ve been to. I learned I need to ask about sauces or glazes, but was hoping this may help others.
I did only give three stars for food because I tried a few of the veggies to test the sauce and wasn’t a fan of the sweeter...
Read moreAdmittedly, we came in and heard they had run out of a few things. Our experience was less than acceptable when it came to price for services. We ordered 2 soups, one pork dumpling with vegetables, the other sea food with vegetables. The thing is, the only thing in them that could be called vegetables was chives(green onion stems). We asked what kind of vegetables it is suppose to have, but the waiter didn't know, but said there was a problem in the kitchen. He took them back, only to return with the same soup, with a piece of some herb stuck in it. That's the vegetables...
I had ordered some dumplings as an appetizer, and when they came out were like warm at best. Fried Calamari ordered was perfectly cooked, and the only complaint is that it had basically no flavor in the batter. Ordered Dancing Girl Rolls(sushi), and were good flavor, but for $13, tiny. Portion size for all the sushi they offer is a little bigger than a half dollar at biggest. The server didn't offer us any utensils until we asked for them. And still didn't offer enough. My brothers wife ordered a special request, to not have much oil used in her habatchi chicken, with white rice. Turns out that means under cook the vegetables, and use no seasoning.
We don't feel a need to ever...
Read moreI have been going to this place for a long time. I was here with my family last month and my 12 year old daughter has been ordering chicken nuggets everytime we come here, since she doesn't like sushi. We went there tonight and the lady server refused to serve my daughter chicken nuggets because it's only for 10 and under. I told her we have been ordering that for her because she is very picky and doesn't like sushi. She said that's there policy and they can't serve it to her because she is not 10 and under. She could at least told me that the price would be higher because she's not 10 and under but she just keep saying that's there policy and someone was doing it wrong by allowing it to be ordered. I was looking forward to my $25.95 sushi deluxe that I always order but that was very disrespectful refusing to serve my daughter chicken nuggets because of their policy. We left very unhappy because I would not let my daughter just sit and watch us eat. What about if I ordered it to go they would probably got it for me. I spend a lot of money here because I love sushi but I would never go back in this...
