I am raising a granddaughter who has been bringing home a backpack buddy each Friday. For us this is not even beneficial. The same foods are sent every week, 1 can of hytop chicken which she does not eat, I 6 pk of raisins which she does not eat, 1 snack pack pudding in choc to vanilla which she does not eat, 1 can hytop fruit cocktail which she does not eat, 1 can beef or chicken soup which she does not eat, 1 can of hytop beef Ravioli or spaghetti and she might try the ravioli sometime, 1 box macaroni which she might eat sometime. I don't understand why the exact same foods are sent all the time and why there is absolutely no variety in these food bags. Why no beenie weenies, no chili, beef stew, jello gelatin, canned pears, peaches, apples, mandarin oranges, pineapple, no tuna, dried apricots, banana chips, applesauce or pear or other fruit sauces, no fortified juices, no oatmeal, grits, no peanut butter l, salsa and tortilla chips...in short why no real variety to help encourage consumption of the food? We are going to opt out of this program for lack of real benefit to our household. I'm sure it has it's place but it just seems weird that the exact same foods are provided every week with no variety. As a grandparent on a fixed income I could use the help but the way this program operates on such a strict regime of products makes it useless for us. I'm sure this is true for other...
Read moreThis is a great place to volunteer in Charlotte! I come here frequently to volunteer with work.
Parking is a bit of a pain, but you can usually find a spot somewhere. The check in process also hasn't been great recently. I think they've been doing construction so you have to go in through the warehouse entrace. There wasn't anywhere to put costs or bags, but again, this was just the last time, so I would assume there will be a lobby area again soon.
What you do will depend on the day. I've sorted and boxed food before. The last time we were in the back sorting through donations from CVS.
I will say, the Cleveland food bank got redone and is very nice now. This one isn't nearly as nice as that, but I don't fault the food bank for that.
I think it's a fun and interactive environment to volunteer in. I'll continue coming here...
Read moreSo to preface i love this place and 99.9% of the people have beautiful absolutely personalities/hearts, this is the third or fourth time ive been here, Getting to my point that a heavy set dark skin woman sitting all the way on the left at the table asked who I was rudely when I politely asked if they had a bathroom, which is surprising because ive had nothing but lovely encounters with everyone until now, you work at a volunteer establishment to "help" others but can't be polite until I say im here to volunteer? Maybe she's having a bad day but I kind of doubt it because she was laughing, smiling and talking to the other two people at the desk so it makes me wonder if she's made people rethink their decision to help other it's just disappointing man why is negativity everywhere, even in an amazing place like...
