This is a pretty interesting place. I have never been here before or in this area. So with that said, I am assuming pre-COVID that this entire area was a busy/booming area. It seemed to me as if there were other bars that were attached even with an outdoor venue that was closed. Fast forward to the review I am writing about.

You pull up and find a place around that has plenty of parking. Locate don the outside of the building were, I think six beach volleyball courts. This was absolutely booming and packed for my entire stay there.

We did sit outside and got to watch everyone play volleyball, which was fun. To get drinks you can go inside or get it from a pass-through window. The bartenders were friendly, fast, and efficient.

We did order food, which you have to go inside to order. The food taker person was efficient, and very patient while we ordered food. We ordered the pretzel, tried the vegan/plant-based bratwurst, fried pickles, chips, and salad.

In regards to the food, the salad, fried pickles and chips were good. I have eaten a few bratwursts previously. Was it horrible, nope. Was it good, that would be a far stretch for me to even say that. I think it was decent at best. I thought if it was on the menu, it was different, I was going to give it a try. I think the biggest issue with it was that they use a regular type of hot dog bun on there instead of the type of bun that should be used for that meal.

Overall the atmosphere was enjoyable, service was great, but the food was nothing to write home about. Do I hate it, no, but I certainly am not in complete drop-dead love with this...

TOTCHOS AND STOUTS BABYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! Omg I love VBGB. I have to say, they have the BEST fries. I've never had any like them. They are extra crispy and have what I believe is ground sea salt. Perfect salt to potato ratio! But let's talk about the totchos. Picture in your mind and your taste buds what you think nachos but with tater tots instead of tortillas chips would be like... I'll give you a second...got it? Okay. Well I'm here to tell you that they are even better than that!! Nothing would have prepared me for the deliciousness of the totchos. I have had them ONE time and have been unable to get them off of my mind since then. I haven't had a chance to make my way back over there yet (damn adult life) but I'm surely going back! They are a bit spicy from the jalapenos but I'm sure you can always ask for it without those. I definitely say to check them out! They are also one of the few places around Charlotte that I have found that have stouts! So if you're a dark beer person, definitely check them out! Thank you VBGB and thank you to Offline for making this one of the monthly rewards...

We went in search of, who'd-a-thunk, a German Biergarten experience. Aside from the beerhall-style large tables and some German-sounding menu items, this is nothing of the sort. First, there are ZERO German beer offerings. None. Second, the wursts were mediocre at best, served on odd German-esque rolls, the potato salad was far from authentic-tasting (chunky cubed potatoes with much too much vinegar, blech)...we did enjoy the plain grilled chicken wings--they were juicy and with mostly crispy skin and the dry rub had a great flavor. The Chicken-Spinach sausage was tough and a bit over-cooked but the best flavored of any of the wursts that we tried (all of the others). Staff was hit or miss---some very friendly and engaging, others pretty unfriendly. We know, Charlotte ain't Germany, but when you call yourself a biergarten...we were disappointed here. We have tried both OMB and the Waldhorn restaurant in Pineville, both offering very different atmospheres but much, much better...

Amazing beer, great food, and even better ambience! If you are looking for a nice beer garden with a ton of different beers on tap, a great open concept indoor and outdoor seating area for intermingling, playing some outdoor games or just enjoying good company, VGBG is worth checking out. I was surprised by the quality of the food for a place that focuses mainly on beer. Though a lot of it is bar food, they have also implemented a nice fusion of German food into their menu with quality ingredients and an amazing combo with the beer. They also had some rather surprising vegetarian options like a tomato, veggie and mozzarella skewer and delicious black bean burger! We ended up deciding to cater our most recent gathering which was very well executed and all of our friends and family truly enjoyed the food and beer. We will definitely be doing it again!

Visited several times before concerts, and review is for August 16th, 2023. Nice little place to grab a quick bite and draft beer before a concert at the Amphitheatre or Music Hall that are both located next door. Food is ordered at the counter, and swiftly delivered to your table. Food service was fast, but the chicken club sandwich was a little dry. Plenty of craft beer on tap, but they would not serve samples "because it's a night with a show at the Amphitheatre". As a craft beer enthusiast, I'd prefer to sample a few before spending $10 for a pint. There is plenty of seating inside, and they have a large outdoor patio, most of which is covered. The patio is surrounded by volleyball courts, so that adds a little bit of visual entertainment. All of the staff was very friendly, but the food and lack of beer samples set them back a star.
