I'm writing to share an extremely hurtful and disappointing experience I just had at Ten58 Sports Bar and Lounge around 1:15 pm today. Before I dive into the circumstances of why this experience was so damaging for me, I'd like to highlight the fact that it is important to treat every single customer that walks through your doors with the same level of respect and value - You never know who someone is or what they may be going through. I am well travelled and have never experienced such mistreatment in my life. I am embarrassed and disgusted by the way your establishment is ran.
I am a traveler from outside the US, who had already been experiencing an extremely difficult time. My flight was cancelled several times within the last 24 hours leading me to endure very uncomfortable circumstances. At the time I walked into your establishment I had not had food or water for nearly 20 hours!
After finally securing an alternative route to my destination through Greyhound, I was relieved to find your restaurant so close to the station. As a visitor, I had no idea the bus station didn't carry food. What I initially thought was a blessing turned out to be a humiliating experience.
I walked in and found myself a seat at the bar, as your welcome sign indicates to find yourself a seat. Within a few minutes a server came out and immediately said "No bags allowed". There was no warm greeting or courtesy extended at all, not even, "Can I offer you some water", "Would you like to order to go". She spoke to me in a manner that was extremely discriminatory, dismissive and rude. Initially shocked, I asked her if she meant my bag needed to be on the floor. Her response was equally as cold. This encounter went down in front of several other customers and left me to feel treated like I was a trespasser or a disturbance to other customers. To save myself from the embarrassment, I got up and left.
I'd like to highlight that I was actually carrying a business backpack containing my laptop, documents and personal items - not a travel bag or large luggage. There was no visible signage clearly indicating a "no bags" policy at the entrance that can justify refusing service in this manner. Enforcing these policies simply based on racial profiling and assumptions is a careless and discriminatory practice.
I have now embarked on a 5 hr bus trip with no food and a sour taste in my mouth over this experience.
To add insult to injury, I did my research. It's an absolute shame that a Black-owned establishment retains employees with zero Customer Service training and enforces policies that encourage said employees to discrimate against persons of color.
Thanks to Ten58, this is probably my first and last visit to Charlotte. Thanks for the memories.
If you're looking for somewhere to eat that prides itself on inclusion, good customer service and treating ALL customers like human beings. I strongly suggest you look...
Read moreNever in my life have I been treated so rudely as at this hooka sports bar. I am from a foreign country, and after landing at the Charlotte, North Carolina airport, I had a few hours to spare before catching a bus at the station across the street.
I walked into Ten58 with a small bag, not large, and told the waitress behind the bar, who was wearing an extremely short skirt, that I wanted a drink. Suddenly, she grabbed my small bag and plonked it down next to the cash register near the main entrance door. She said, “I don’t know what’s in it." This was a complete turnoff. She didn’t even allow me to put it there myself; she just yanked it out of my hand and put near the front door. This, even after I told her that she was welcome to look inside herself.
I sat by myself, sipping my drink, which was good, but her attitude was a big turn-off.
Several customers were smoking hookah pipes while having their drinks. I could not wait to leave and vowed never to return to this corner dive. I even got the feeling that white people were not really welcome here.
Aside from a few large televisions on the walls and behind the bar, showing sporting events, the place seemed empty, dull and uninteresting.
I certainly was not going to leave the waitress any tip since I had paid a total of $11.36 for the $9.00 vodka and tonic. Ten58 added a whopping 18% mandatory tip of $1.62 to my bill and a tax of 74 cents.
I am sure the place is popular with some local residents of Charlotte, but as a visitor, I was not treated politely, nor was it a pleasant experience. Surely, there must be far better bars in Charlotte where the customers are greeted politely and welcomed.
Ten58 was not a pleasant nor welcoming place. My advice is: don’t go here. Find another bar.
Credit cards are accepted, but I paid in cash on May 21, 2025, on a mid-afternoon visit, and stayed less than 30 minutes.
Although it seemed that WiFi existed, the bartender and waitress told me that there was no WiFi for customers, and therefore she could not give me any code.
Avoid this place like the plague. It's not well run. Mainly at night, I think some limited food and snacks are available, but I would never ever go to this place again after this most...
Read moreI went with full intentions on supporting a black business. However the service we received definitely caused them to lose my support. 3.6 stars is very low on yelp, so I was hoping, I could help the rating but they lived up to their score. The ambience is nice. The location is ideal. The staff spent most of their time talking to each other and smoking hookah. There were not menus or QR codes to scan. When asked if they had a drink menu, I was offered a AirDrop menu, but it only had food. I was told that they can just make me whatever I drink. (I specifically came in for their specialty drinks) but was never offered any detail of these drinks, which they advertise on a wall TV. I had to go back and look at their instagram page and hand pick drinks from a video to see if that was available for me to get. It would have been overall helpful if some of that information was just simply provided. There were about seven people total at the time we went. With that observation, it was not busy and we should have gotten prompt service. I received my drink, but it took me about 30mintues to get my hookah. While waiting on my hookah a lady walked in and stood with the staff. She received her hookah first. I almost canceled my order because that didn't make sense. The hookah I ordered should've came first(I ordered first). It was assumed she was management. Since there were only 7 ppl in there, walking around to make sure guest were happy would've been ideal as management. Perfect time to connect and make sure business is smooth. I received attitude from one server when I asked if I could simply place my order thru her. The funny thing about it was that she told me I could order from anybody, but gave me attitude while I ordered from her. If I could order from anyone, what is the big deal? She proceeded to tell me that my server was simply taking someone's order. I said that's OK. Can I still order from you since I can order from anyone? At that point I knew spending any more money here was a no go for me. Every time you ride by they look closed and overall I can’t see myself coming back. Also the hookah ain’t $30...
