So yesterday night (06/30/2022) my close friend and I decided to go out for lunch and get a beer and a slice of Christian’s Pizza, something we haven’t done in a long time but we enjoy every time for the last 7 years. we had the rare opportunity to be off on the same days so we decided to do our usual thing. We walk in there around 9:30pm and we knew they were about to close soon but we planned on only getting 2 slices of pepperoni and a Stella Artois. As soon as we walk in and walked up the counter you could tell right away by the look, mannerisms and tone in the young lady’s voice that she was not in the best of moods or severely annoyed about something. We asked a question about the pizza on display, and without even looking around towards us and with her AirPods in, she responded in the most rude and annoyed tone I’ve heard in a while. It was a simple question about one of the ingredients in the pizza. It’s was honestly one of the few times I’ve ever felt unwanted and embarrassed in a cville restaurant and the FIRST TIME EVER, that I have felt this kind of horrible customer service at this particular Christian’s Pizza on the Downtown Mall (which I have been coming to for the past 7 years!) it was so bad I told my friend to leave not even 50 seconds after we started talking to this girl behind the counter. It was that bad! I have NEVER had to do that at ANY restaurant in Charlottesville, I was stunned. I’ve never had an issue with the amazing 2 ladies that usually run the counter! Every single time they’ve been very nice to all the customers and practically got to know me for coming there so often throughout my life. I know this young heavyset girl with the AirPods doesn’t define Christian’s Pizza or this particular location as a whole, but it’s important to better keep Christian’s Pizza same positive, happy, welcoming establishment that it’s always been since the very beginning. This should never occur to anyone else ever again. And I hope the young girl can learn that this is not the way to treat people EVER. It pains me to write a review like this, but I care about this location so much on a personal level that I don’t want it’s reputation ruined. ♥️🍕☮️ hopefully the next time I come, It’ll be much...
Read moreChristian's has the finest pizza slice in the United States. I say this having literally come from pizza tasting in New York as well as Boston on this trip and of course previously trying slices in many, many other States. It is a bold statement, no doubt. However, let me explain. I first tasted Christian's pizza when it was a single shop operated by its original owner in old Town Charlottesville. That was Summer of 1998. I had a very unique slice (Avocado, no alterations). I tried it expecting it to be gross, but it was so delicious I judged all slices since against it, not meeting its peer until today. So, having remembered its excellence, but not having come to Charlottesville since, 25 years later I specifically returned just to try it again to see if it had held up all these years, which recipes or preparation almost never do. (Hof's Hut in Southern California has a pot roast parmesean sandwhich, which is one of the rare examples). I had seen via internet Christian's expansion to multiple locations which was unsurprising given my prior experience. Since then, the original owner sold to a friend, but then went on to open a couple he ran himself, which is this location. The Avocado pizza slice is exceptional and stands alone. The ratio of ingredients, the crispy New York thin crust yet hardy enough to hold the weight coupled with the correct ratio of saltiness to tomato sweet is simply the best slice you can find anywhere. Of course, the standard cheese slice by which comparisons must be made is equally exceptional, and I tested that as a control slice, and that compares with the best New York slice places. Because the Avocado slice is singularly unique and a rarity amongst even the fanciest pizza places, the fatiness of the Avocado mixed with the chopped tomato, sauce and cheese makes it an absolute must try before you die slice. The mouth feel is perfect. Literally, if you are within 120 miles come, or if traveling come and rent a room nearby and indulge, the prices of the room will be worth the experience. The ambiance is clean and comfortable, which for a slice place is nice and the service...
Read moreThis pizza spot is located conveniently in the Downtown Mall area of Charlottesville and always has customers dining both in and outside every time I pass it!
Tonight after a day of shopping, driving, skating, we decided to pick up something quick near our apartment and chose to try Cristian's!
Upon entering on a slower Sunday night, my friend and I walked to the counter where many pizza were on display with toppings ready to re-heat on the oven for you! Reminds me of Sbarro in that they heat it up for you to melt the cheese and toppings and crisp the crust! I chose what looked like a fully loaded veggie slice filled with artichokes, olives, mushrooms, garlic, and spinach! I noticed there was no cheese on that particular type (probably pre-made Vegan) so I asked if I could have it topped with cheese and of course it was no problem!
The employees were super friendly and in great moods which is always a plus! I also chose a Margherita slice, mushroom slice, and traditional cheese. Not all for me sadly! If you would like to order by the full pie you can do that too! They also have calzones, and salads to choose from! Call ahead for larger orders and full pies, show up on the spot to see what's new at the moment!
There are many bottled drinks available for purchase as well as fountain sodas, sweet tea, and lemonade.
The pizzas were all delicious and served New York style! Crispy, crusty, edges, with a softer middle and melty cheese. So...
