The Avocado/feta slice is simply the best slice in the United States. I too thought it was a strange combination when first encountered but I first tried it over 20 years ago and it set the standard for all slices since. I LITERALLY came back 20 plus years later having moved to the West Coast. I have tried slices all over the US, including the New York. Philadelphia, Boston and all the main reviewed places. Places like Joe's, Lorenzo's etc... This is the singular best slice. It sounds weird or perhaps a little off-putting to have Avocado with feta and chunks of tomatoes on top of a normal base. However every element here is done right. The crispy crunch coupled with the slightly chewy mouth feel is as good as the best New York crust. I literally just came from New York having tested the usuals like Joe's, etc... and these beat them. It is the single place outside New York to get the crust right. Big statement I know. The original owner from 20 years ago sold some locations but has reopened under the same name in a couple of different locations. Most East Coast slice places lack good seating and have surly staff. I came in on a day where the original owner happened to be manning the front and the night before met other staff, all very friendly. There are locations that are not the 'original' owner but I haven't been to those. The avocado is the singular best slice possible. However, I tried the cheese, the Hawaiian and Christian's favorite, the tomatoe basil slice. All shared the great mouth feel, crispy but chewy dough, generous toppings, and slightly salty but sweet sauce. very reasonably priced at about $5 for a large slice which would be enough for most for lunch. 'Christian' has worked hard over 20 plus years to perfect the ultimate slice and slice place. Enough so that this place is worth a 2 hour drive or even an overnight stay, the Fairfield Inn up the road was clean and comfortable. I came from the far West and made the trip from DC just to try the slice and 20 plus years later was incredibly pleased to see it hadn't changed. This is a must try before you die pizza slice place, and a must try for the Avocado/feta slice for any serious...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped here around 12:30am on a weekend night while we were our way home from Richmond airport. Our flights had been delayed 5+ hours so we were driving back to town much later than expected, and we were lamenting how after a long day of traveling, our dinner options would be limited. As I got off the highway and we accepted we’d be eating cup noodle, I drove by this Christian’s location, saw the “Open until 2AM” sign, and made a u-turn; I had been meaning to check this recently opened location out, and it seemed like an answer to our late night dinner prayers. I’m glad that we did because the two workers that night treated us with such hospitality, it meant so much to us after our tiring day - despite being tired themselves, I’m sure, since it was midnight on a weekend, and having other customers to take care of! After ordering a whole meatball pizza for takeout, it was clearly communicated how long it would take, and we were encouraged to sit down and get a drink while we wait, and we were handed water cups without even asking for them. When the pizza was ready, it was presented to us with enthusiasm and a smile, opening the box with a flourish to display their work, and wishing us well/safety on our way home. I rarely leave reviews, even if I have a notable good or bad experience - this time, I wanted to take the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the hard workers that night that unknowingly welcomed us back home with open arms. When checking out with our card we weren’t presented with the option of leaving a tip, and I regret that we didn’t, so I hope this review makes it to them and they can see our appreciation this way. As for the pizza itself, it was delicious and I highly recommend that specific pie. I can’t wait to return and try more options from their extensive menu...
Read moreI pray the owner reads this as I was totally shocked and disappointed about tonight’s service. We arrived at 10:53pm and the gentleman that makes pizza was mopping the floor. There was only 1 cheese pizza 3 pepperoni slices and a few special slices. I was told that’s all they had and 4 calzones. I said the sign says you close at 2am you might have to make some more. I settled for 1 cheese 1 pepperoni. While I was standing in the restaurant 8 yes 8 more people came in. Immediately the cheese was gone with 3 people behind me do you know that guy told the other people that the food on the counter was ALL they had for the NIGHT 😳 HOW? You close at 2am. I seen one guy take a picture and left. It was 11:14pm! I ask my son who was debating if he wanted pizza and what they had BUT they were basically turning people AWAY! PLEASE CHECK THE CAMERAS. I wanted until they came out and confirmed what i witnessed and told the customers that the Christian’s on the corner of UVA was open. Guess what the last time I came late night the gentleman was talking and burnt my slices. I told him I done like burnt food. He told me it was crispy the bottom and around the sides were BLACK 🤬 Normally I wouldn’t even take the time to write a bad review I just wouldn’t go back but I actually like some of the workers like Maria her uncle and boy do I miss Tony however; this incident and the one before this is...
