Jak'n Jil — Restaurant in Charlottesville

I have been going to Jack and Jill since I was a little girl. Service and food has always been good. The couple who ran it, ran things smooth as silk!!!! Shirley ( I think was her name) ran the counter taking orders, making milk shakes, and running the cash register without help. I took a friend there today that has never been and boy was her first experience a ROTTEN one. We waited over 5 mins for someone to take our order. There was a young maybe teen aged boy and a women behind the counter. The two of them couldn't keep up with the front. While we waited for one of them to take our order I watched her count money from the register which took a while then she walked over the the side they take ice cream orders and put the money in her purse. Finally one of them took our order. The food was ok. When we were ready to leave we wanted to order milk shakes. Again we waited and waited. Then they couldn't find our tickets. Again more wait time. Tickets were located, milk shakes made, refilled drinks to go. No lid was offered more wait time for them. Then if it could get any worse I spilled my milk shake. On me on the counter on the floor. No " I'm sorry do you need a towel " from the people. I cleaned it the best I could. I hope no one slips on it. At least I won't because that is the last time I ever go there. ...

Found this gem and my first time visit, Sat 10/28/23. I always rather go to a local restaurant that care and are part of the community instead of chain places. Lovely little place. Actually have door to go in a small area for take out orders, another to go into the sit down restaurant. Nicely decorated, very clean, even the 1 shared restroom was very clean! A few locals were there with me. The only negative was they only take cash, but there is a ATM inside. I was having a hard time deciding what to order, I was down to the spaghetti on special or BBQ platter. I asked if it was possible to get a small bite to sample to help make my decision. I'm grateful that they were glad to. They both tasted so good, I wanted to order both, but decided on the spaghetti. It came with salad and bread.

The lady that waited on me answered my questions, and sd she was new so she'd go ask the owner about my request. My food came out timely, salad was cold and spaghetti piping hot, as should be. All 3 staff/ owner I had contact with were friendly and efficient! I'll definitely be back the next time I have to come back to C'ville for an appt at UVA.

PS, I'm handicap, on a cane, and I found all area's are very easily accessible. Plenty of room in the extra wide booths and...

While I used to live down the street from here, I had actually never eaten here. I had tried once, but they didn't accept credit cards and that was all I had on me, so I had to go elsewhere. (They now have an ATM).

I happened to drop in a couple days ago not to eat, but related to a situation I was in and needed a little assistance with. I met Crystal then, who was so very sweet and amazing and she helped me tremendously.

...I made it back just now, as I hoped she would be there so I could thank her again, and I did want something to eat.

I don't really eat a lot so all I ordered was an order of French fries. Now, you should know, I love French fries. They are actually my biggest weakness, and I have had some pretty good French fries. But the fries here take "amazing" to a whole new level!

The portions are very generous and they have a special seasoning on them that really sets them apart from the rest!

I feel like I've been deprived all my life (or at least the last 16 years,) because quite possibly the world's best French fries have been under my nose this whole time, and I never even knew it.

The staff is very friendly, and it's a wonderful place to just relax and enjoy your food in.
