This afternoon me and my SO decided to to go here for the first time and ordered food at 6:45 and after waiting for a really long time she comes to tell us about how they burnt my shrimp and had to remake it so we waited more and more then she brings are food out and the shrimp and scallops are on the trey I assume the first burnt ones are on which does not look good at all then I asked for cocktail sauce and I got just straight ketchup and my mashed potato’s no joke tastes like chewed up paper not anything like potato’s what so ever they tasted like they smelled my corn was really brown and kinda tasted old and my boyfriends spaghetti was extremely greasy we would have complained and asked for a send back but she never came to check and ask how the food was we sat there waiting for 30 minutes after being done for her to come around the corner and across the room ask if we want boxes we say sure just one and she takes another 5-10 minutes then brings the boxes and the check still without asking how the food was she gave us no chance to ask for a send back until after it had been over an hour of waiting after bringing the check I tell her about the potato’s and she offers to replace them but again we had been there for over an hour already so I said no and ended up getting a cheese cake slice. We were not offered a refund or a discount. And when brining it up to the guy checking us out he tells me to just send it back very aggressively. Not sure if he was mad at us or his team but it was not welcoming at all and when I told him about the mashed potato’s and how long it took hopeing for a discount he said literally nothing besides send them back but how can we send them back if they server took 30 minutes to check on us ended up paying $60 for the nasty food and terrible service a...
Read moreI don't typically go for Italian fare in restaurants; I am very particular about the noodles/pasta dishes and like it to be al dente with a little firmness in a bite. I have been to far too many "Italian" branded restaurants that served up hot, soupy, messes that are labeled anything as a pasta and sauce dish. I mean seriously if you cannot do noodles/pasta correctly and want to serve up frozen Stouffer's style food be my guest. Unfortunately, here I am unable to say anything to the food they serve.
We went here for Mother's Day 2021; this was my wife's and I first restaurant outing since COVID began because we had been doing only takeout. Had never heard of this place, we just tagged along as other members of the group suggested it. The place was under half-full, supposedly practice distancing but placed us right next to a party of 15+ people.
This was the largest group in the place, and apparently no one else mattered. We sat down and waited for around 10 minutes. I went to find a waitress (of which there were two that night apparently) and she said "oh, we are so sorry. We forgot about you". Strike One. We wait about 5 more minutes before someone arrives and gives us menus and takes our drink order. Five to seven minutes after that we get our drinks and the waitress does not return to take our order after a further 10 minutes. We are about 30 minutes in now and nothing has transpired other than receiving drinks. After making another decision on where to get dinner we leave, and the waitress simply says, "sorry".
Will never return here, and will never recommend this place. The sad thing about this whole evening is we were a RESERVATION, having set this up beforehand. Apparently they do NOT honor reservations.
Take a risk going...
Read moreDennis Spaghetti & Steak House is a long-time STAPLE of Portsmouth natives. I have literally been going here since I was a small child - So 40 years ago. It started out called "The Purple Possum" and was located in the Plaza-3 Movie Theater strip mall at the corner of High Street and Tyre Neck Road. They changed the name to Dennis's probably in the late1980's and shortly after moved out of Plaza-3 Movie Theater to the current location. I still remember the old man (back in the day) who runs the restaurant sitting in a booth right next to the cash register, smoking cigarettes, and doing the daily business on his old-school paper-fed adding machine (what you would call today, a calculator). Well guess what? The old man is still around, he is 78 years old today, and he still has a booth next to the cash register to sum of the daily business. If you are looking for a fancy high-end restaurant this is NOT your place. If you are looking for good, home-cooked food, like they served 40+ years ago - You found a GEM. Dennis's is probably most well known for the "Baked Spaghetti Al La Dennis" - It is a plate of spaghetti covered in traditional sauce, peperoni and sausage, then smothered with cheese and then baked in the oven until golden brown. I can assure you - If you are a spaghetti fan, you have NEVER experienced anything like "Baked Spaghetti Al La Dennis" - Try it out. $15.95 Menu Price and only a brave few can eat the entire serving. 100% 5-Star Rating - Based on my 40+ years of experience at...
