Amazing things happen when authentic food and excellent service come together. My wife took our family to Black Salt for my Birthday.
The restaurant is located in chesterfield valley off Clarkson. The environment is cozy and staff attentive….. but the Food, The food is why you’re reading this.
We brought our own bottle of white Burgundy for this occasion (the corkage fee was very reasonable).
We started with the Burrah Chop Adraki (chops marinated in a ginger garlic paste with spices…. Then roasted in a tandoor). Peshawari Gosht Tikka Which was a boneless spicy goat stew with perfectly sized and tender pieces of meat. We also had the traditional Chicken 65 which was a staple and done very well (ask them to tone down the spices on this dish).
Our main entrees were all vegetarian including Palak Paneer (spinach with Indian cottage cheese cubes), the traditional Yellow Dal (yellow lentil) Tadka, Ajwaini Bhindi (spicy okra stir fried with onions and spices) and Raita (yogurt with vegetables) to balance the spices. The assorted bread basket was plentiful and had something for everyone on our table.
Finally it was time for the most important part!!! Yes the desserts. We had the Hot Gulab Jamun which were authentic and served with a twist, we also had the kesar Rasmalai which was very good but the Zaffrani Kheer (rice slowly cooked in condensed milk with saffron and sugar) was absolutely divine and the Chef’s Signature Shahi Tukda was an amped up version of a dessert made from fried toast in a sugary buttery syrup topped with a generous portion of Rabdi (slow cooked condensed milk with saffron and sugar) reminded me of the same dessert my mother makes at home.
The wine was pouring and the food was authentic and tasty!!!!
Overall, an amazing experience!!! Definitely not to be missed!!! Mid priced menu ($$) that gets 5 stars for taste.
Thanks guys for making my...
Read moreThe first Indian restaurant that has stood out for me and my husband in serving authentic Indian cuisine. We absolutely loved our experience here. We went in thinking it's going to be just another Indian restaurant in the area, but we were mighty wrong. We decided to go with the recommendations of the owner and we were glad we did.
We had the Rogan Josh, Shahi Tukda, Chili Garlic Naan, Shahi Paneer, and Chicken Tandoori with Miso Paste.
Rogan Josh: We requested the chef to make our food as Indian as it gets and he made the Rogan Josh spicier than it usually is, which definitely had a kick to it consisting of thick creamy portion of onions, garlic, and yogurt.
Shahi Paneer: We were transported to India when we first had our morsel. This dish is worth every praise. The paneer was insanely succulent and very flavorful. A must have when you're a vegetarian or even someone whose looking to make their meal all meat.
Chicken Tandoori: This could have used a little more flavor. The chicken was cooked well, had the right amount of charring too, but was just lacklustre. The miso paste wasn't evident and we were served this with barbecue sauce rather than tamarind chutney. The fusion certainly wasn't our favorite.
Shahi Tukda: The highlight of our dinner. The best dessert you could lay your hands on. This is a chef special and rightly so. Not very sweet, not very crispy, just the right amount of flavors after a wholesome meal.

Read more5 stars. The atmosphere here was amazing. It’s a small place with about a dozen tables which allows the staff to be able to focus more attention on each guest.
The service was also amazing. My wife and I had never been here and we asked our server what their favorite dish was and we ordered that. Then we asked what their favorite bread choice was and also ordered that followed with asking what their second favorite entree was and we also ordered that. All of the food was amazing and the spice levels were perfect. We finished off the night with asking their favorite dessert and also enjoyed that. To be able to experience the menu without even looking at it was very enjoyable and made for a memorable night.
The food was great. One of the entrees was chicken while the other was goat. The goat was so tender and paired excellent with the bread. The chicken we ordered slightly more spicy because that’s what the server enjoyed and I will say it was definitely more spicy! Not over the top but it kept my mouth tingling and still wanting to eat more. The dessert was excellent and super savory. My wife and I agreed we will both be wanting to come back here much much more often.
Also I can only imagine the man near the front was the owner as he was super friendly and personable. He wanted us to have the best dining experience and accommodated us nicely as it was our first time coming in.
Overall I’m glad we chose this restaurant to dine tonight as it greatly exceeded our...
