El Salto Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Chesterfield

Walking through my dining experience we sat down and it took quite a while to see our server. We gave them the benefit of doubt. When she finally walked over we ordered our drinks. We got our drinks and we still did not have any chips and salsa. So we asked for some and it took at least 10 minutes for her to bring some out. While we waited for our chips the sweet tea tasted like it came from metal bucket. We then asked to switch the drinks out because we didn’t like the taste and she looked at us like we were stupid. We ordered our food and it came out relatively quick but it all tasted bad. No body at my table liked their food and mine was made wrong so unfortunately I had to send it back because it was made extremely incorrect. Everybody at my table waited until I got my corrected food because we all wanted to eat together as that is the point of going as a group. So everyone’s food got cold and our server at this point we have seen maybe twice. Everyone’s drinks were empty about the whole time of this experience. Our server was not very nice and gave us condescending looks. We finally asked for the manager and asked for a discount due to our service being so bad. And the manager said they couldn’t give us a discount because we ate a lot of chips. While nobody touched any of the food they ordered due to it tasting bad and we didn’t take any of it to go. He then argued with us and told us we had to pay for all the food we didn’t eat. Finally he said he could take some money off. We finally paid and left as soon as possible we were there for over and...

Well first off, we went on a Saturday night and there was plenty of parking. After walking in, there was no host or hostess to be found. A large group of people were waiting to be seated and it took a while for a host and hostess (likely a waiter and waitress as well) to seat everyone. Once we were finally seated, the waiter was fairly prompt and got our chips & salsa, drinks and orders put in. However, it took 30-35 minutes to get our food (which I believe they are very short-staffed) As of this post, they do NOT serve alcohol as they are still awaiting their liquor license so if you're looking for this place to go to have a margarita, this is not the place to go to. Now when the food did finally arrive, I have to say...they were the BEST carne asada tacos I've ever had! Steak was lean, tender, and the salsa verde, pico de gallo, and rice were incredible! Kudos to their chef as this was very good food! Once they get their liquor license and hopefully get more waiters and waitresses, this place should thrive! We have been to El Salto several times to eat in and just ordered dinners carry out tonight. This place is amazing! The food is very good, very fresh and the restaurant is very clean. We have had good service every time we ate in. They seated us, took our orders and delivered the food all very quickly (but not rushed). The carry out order was ready as scheduled. The waiters and staff have always been very friendly. The menu has so many choices, it has many spelling errors but that just adds to the charm of the place.

I love the pollo loco it is a large chicken breast in a great sauce with cheese served with rice, beans and a salad with guacamole all for like $13. My wife loves the grilled tilapia with vegetables. It comes with shrimp and the vegetables are fresh and well prepared. All our meals taste great and are big enough for leftovers.

We will keep coming back. I hope they are able to stay open. Lots of great food, good service with a smile and a clean...
