This truck was hyped up for months and only lead to disappointment. Two stars just because it was fish and chips, and sounded more appealing than starving to death on a hot day.
According to their facebook, they were in Durango, CO two days ago where they closed early because they ran out of product. Today they're in Shawnee, KS so I went early as to beat the crowd and get some before they ran out. It's hot in that parking lot and it took them almost 30 minutes from ordering to having food in my hand. Not really a big deal, since that was expected, but any place that asks for a tip before offering their product or service, should be a big red flag. Since they're already asking $17.00 for fish and chips... I'm glad I didn't tip after only having just one bite. There's nothing special about the fish at all. The fish came in three pieces, and was chewy and flavorless aside from the old burnt oil flavor... (and this is after they'd just started up for the day) Gross!!! The fries are better than the fish, but they're like the steak fry version of Arby's curly fries. I wish they'd have canned soda or water to offer to get the nasty taste out of my mouth, but even that won't wash away the regret of paying that much for over hyped rubbish I had to sweat to get. On the Hook Fish and Chips is an overpriced traveling beat up UPS truck painted blue selling biohazardous waste.
IF YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO HAVE ONE THING ON YOUR MENU, DO THAT ONE THING, BUT YOU COULD AT THE VERY LEAST DO IT WELL. YOU COULD AT VERY LEAST CHANGE THE OIL FOR THE PRICE YOU'RE CHARGING.
Stop asking for tips. Change your oil. Or--hear me out--maybe your product isn't worth $17. On the Hook Fish and Chips is an insult to parking lot food...
Read moreThis was my first time at a food truck, so if there’s something going on with them, I’m probably not the one to ask. We went to the food truck this week, got there at 10:57, three minutes before they were supposed to open. They were having some kind of trouble and didn’t open the window until 11:14.
We got three very modest size fish pieces that cost $14. I’ve paid that much for good cod before, so that didn’t bother me any. It was good, but I’ve had just as good at Grand Slam in High Ridge, Missouri, and better at Schottie’s on Lindbergh— both were cheaper with much bigger portions.
The french fries were delicious, but I would consider it a small order and they were an outrageous $7. The coleslaw, with an Asian dressing, was also delicious. The serving size was so embarrassingly small—four bites—that its $3 price tag was just short of highway robbery. We also got a bottled root beer, which I think cost around seven dollars. Our entire bill was just shy of $30.
Again, my knowledge of food trucks is very limited, so maybe this is a normal experience price-wise at one. Nonetheless, I won’t be going back and I can’t recommend...
Read moreSo we went to one of the trucks the company has that travels around. The one I visited came to Greenville, TX and my family had been keeping an eye on it for a while on Facebook. I will start out, I don't like cod. Never been a fan, I was expecting to give them my pieces after trying it and just eat the fries. Nope, I kept them. It was that good where I wanted to eat my cod. The breading they use makes the fries some of the best I've had, and the cod just doesn't have that fishy taste I've never been a fan of. The sauces they give are also very tasty and go along well with the food. My family likes either one of them if not both, so you don't need to worry about having to find something to dip the fish in. The last thing is the service. At least for the traveling trucks. They got the wait time down to an art. If they tell you they will be done in 8 minutes, it will be ready in 8 minutes. All in all, check Facebook to see if they come by your city and make sure to get it that day. It's worth it. Every penny of the price they give...
