It was a beautiful day out today so we decided to sit in the sun on our dinner breaks from work. We both really love Double Clutch so we were excited to be able to grab some beer way closer than the tap room in Evanston. The hostess was excellent and sat us right away. Then unfortunately, we sat for about 10 min before anyone came to check in on us. When our server finally did come to us, we asked about happy hour because we had seen a sign. He didn't really seem to know what the specials were and said it was something about the pizzas. I had to ask specific questions to see if he knew what about the pizzas were on special. They didn't have the beer I wanted on tap which wasn't a bit deal, I asked for a glass of water instead. I was told that was not something they had to offer and I had to buy a water. I was a server for many years and in IL, if you serve booze, you are required to have free water available for your patrons. Overall, the less than attentive service staff was incredibly disappointing. I am a Chicagoan and I know there are better restaurants and better waitstaff in this city, but it is a shame that being in such a tourist location, this might the only interaction that guests to our city have with a Chicago restaurant.
The pizza was alright, which is why it got the second star... Otherwise, take your money to the actual Double Clutch tap room in Evanston where...
Read moreFor a tourist attraction this place was fairly decent. The food was as expected. Filling and decent in taste. However, my biggest complaint about this establishment is the 2.5% additional charge noted at the bottom of their menu. It is supposedly to help fund their employees 401k’s and medical plans. (I really wish I took a picture.) While this charge is not mandatory and can be removed upon request, I was met with pushback when I brought it up to our server. He asked me why I wanted to remove it and said he would get his manager (he never did) which was completely out of line. I even reassured him that we would still tip, but we were not paying for that.
As an establishment, this kind of service is disgusting to me. Why would I (as the consumer) use my tax dollars to help fund your employees’s 401k and medical plans? I will not normalize this and will contact my network and advise them to not patron this establishment.
This has completely ruined the experience for me. I will be reaching out to local news outlets about this. Corporate greed in this economy is insane.
For reference, I visited this establishment on Friday, August 25th...
Read moreVisited Beer Garden at Millennium Hall recently, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. From the start, the service was inattentive and disorganized. It took over 25 minutes just for someone to acknowledge we were there — and we weren't the only ones. Guests around us were clearly frustrated by the long wait times as well.
Once we were finally seated, the server seemed rushed and uninterested. We weren’t given any recommendations or even basic information about what beers were on tap or which ones were from their own brewery. For a place that markets itself as a beer garden, you'd expect at least some guidance on the drink selection.
To top it off, we were asked to pay up front, which felt rushed and impersonal. Overall, the lack of communication, poor service, and inattentiveness made the visit a frustrating one. There are far better spots in the area if you’re looking for good service and a welcoming atmosphere. I won’t...
