I’m gonna leave some positive and negative feedback. I’m not sure if anyone monitors these reviews, I don’t see any replies.
I drove from Ottawa to Chicago for the night of Nublu opening for Buddy Guy. I’ve long been inspired by Buddy Guy in my guitar playing history. Drinks and food, good. Got to learn and try Buddy’s favourite cognac and have some Louisiana gumbo. Great atmosphere at the club. History everywhere on the walls. It’s a treat for a blues enthusiast.
On our way out the security was a bit pushy as other reviews here describe. I get it, you guys want it done a certain way. I bought a famous dotted guitar here and was awaiting Buddy to sign it (which he did, new favourite guitar acquired) but while in the merch line one of the security asked me a pretty rude question about my girlfriend I won’t repeat. I’m sorry but where do you get off? After getting our merch and leaving after meeting the legend Buddy himself, I had a second to reflect on how out of line that was. I nearly went back that same night. Like did I cross some sort of boundary unintentionally to warrant an insult? Sorry if we were a little tipsy but don’t be provoking me like that.
All else aside what a privelage to meet Buddy in person in Chicago at his very own club, this trip was long anticipated. Honorable mention to the staff member who’d greeted us and sat us at the bar on entry, older white lad with the glasses. He was very kind and professional. As was the kind lady working the merch counter. She was helpful and appeared to be organized in a busy environment.
I’m happy to redo this review if you guys can reply with having addressed this concern with the staff. My tickets were under Erik Wigger if that helps. Thanks for...
Read moreWe came to this blues bar excited to enjoy some live music and soak in a laid-back, fun atmosphere — and the music absolutely delivered! The performers were excellent, and the energy of the show was fantastic. It’s clear this place has a great legacy and draws people from far and wide, including us and our guests who traveled all the way from Europe.
However, the overall experience was impacted by what felt like excessive and stressful management of the guests. Security staff were moving around constantly, checking our steps multiple times, and one staff member moved our table back and forth five times — literally just shifting it a couple of inches each way. It felt more controlling than necessary, especially considering we were respectful and just trying to enjoy the show. There was also a movable line or barrier that could have been adjusted instead of constantly moving paying customers.
Additionally, while trying to record a moment in the corner of the club — where we weren’t blocking anyone’s view or being disruptive — we were abruptly told to move behind a line like in DMV office. The way it was handled came off as unnecessarily aggressive. It’s hard to enjoy a chill blues night when you feel like you’re being policed at every turn.
The food was decent, typical bar fare, but our server was lovely — attentive, kind, and definitely made us feel welcome. We made sure to tip well in appreciation of her service.
We truly want to love this place, and with a few changes in approach to guest treatment, it could be a top-tier experience. For now, we’ll be keeping an eye on reviews and hoping to see signs of a more relaxed and welcoming vibe before...
Read moreThere is a lot just up the block that has $11 parking for 8 hours, I believe, which is a really good price in comparison to the other parking lots we saw. The staff was friendly, the drinks were really good (most of the cocktails are super expensive - my husband's jack and coke and vodka Sprite were only $6). We ordered the fried catfish (which was extremely buttery soft and tasted great with or without their cajun tarter sauce), the macaroni and cheese, my husband got the peanut buddy pie (which he devoured), and I got the pecan pie (it was warm and amazing). We showed up at 6:45pm on a Saturday because other reviews said you needed to show up early to get a table. The tables are first come first served, but it seems many people just came for the free show, food, and drinks and then left. If you're worried about getting a table, arrive 30 minutes to an hour before the show. Nobody sat at our table, but they do allow people to join you at your table if other tables are taken. The free show, performed by Linsey Alexander, was so much fun that we set our expectations high for the paid show at 9:30pm, that late show was just as good if not, dare I say, better. We ended up having to leave after an hour because we were super tired from travelling all day, but the show was great!! There were people in the audience from all over the country and some from Hungary and Australia. We will...
