On a recent R&R trip to Chicago, I made a stop at Chicago Brewhouse on the Riverwalk, and it ended up being a perfect Chicago afternoon weather wise. The setting: which is an open terrace right at the corner of Wacker Drive (yes, the same Wacker Drive made famous in the Blues Brothers) and the Wabash Ave Bridge. From my table I could see the skyline, hear the L Train of the city, and watch the boats pass by.
As a fan of local craft beer, this place really celebrates Chicago’s brewing culture. With so many local options (Chicago has like over 100 Craft Breweries), I went for the Riverwalk Vienna Lager, brewed for them by Dovetail Brewery. Smooth, crisp, and exactly what I was looking for on a sunny afternoon.
For food, I went with the Maxwell Street Split, a one-of-a-kind combo with both a Chicago-style hot dog and a Polish sausage on the same bun. The hot dog came loaded with all the classics (onion, relish, mustard, tomato, pickle, celery salt), while the Polish was stacked with grilled onions, mustard, and sport peppers. It was over the top in the best possible Midwest way and paired perfectly with my beer.
They were also running CHItober Fest during my visit, which meant even more German-style beers on tap plus brats, pretzels, and schnitzels. Between that, the views, and the atmosphere, it really felt like the best of Chicago in the fall.
If you’re looking for a spot that combines great food, local craft beer, and classic Chicago vibes, I’d highly recommend Chicago...
Read moreThe food was amazing; in the beginning it was awesome had a blast but towards the end it was when i didn’t enjoy it anymore….our server was cool in the beginning; but once it came to our check he was very rude; for one i go out to eat all the time never had splitting a check been a inconvenience to other people they are severing or working; anyway when asking to split the check our server began to say it’s hard on your server to do that… i guess its hard to do something like that. anyway instead of just doing it because he said he would he decided to wait like 5 minutes to explain how hard it is to split a check on a server again ( it’s not that hard or long instead of giving the client a problem just do it ) he ended up doing it as we’re all paying there’s 3 of us; 2 of the 3 tip; when the 3rd person payed and did not tip because ( the server does not know their situation) he proceed to almost speak where everyone could hear and make it seem like no one tipped ( which again 2 of us tipped just 1 didn’t i understand tips are important ) however definitely you do not speak to someone in that manner. It was wrong and unprofessional then throw almost a kid fit when he accidentally charged us twice for a water ( which we never got the 2nd water or i’d just bought it ) but when saying he never got it so he literally huffed out like we were bothering him…. he said he was manager definitely never experienced such a rude and entitled manager. Next time I won’t tip at all if your...
Read moreAfter calling multiple places to get a patio reservation, Chicago Brewhouse was the first out of 12 that put my name without hesitation and were so kind on the phone. Upon arrival a few days later, I released they were down, like right on the river. I was beyond excited. They have these cute red tables and chairs that sit right along the river side that can seat two people or on the patio tables that could sit 4 which is where we were. We decided to just share a few plates. The Italian beef, which they cut into three, there were three of us so that was perfect. We went with the hot peppers and it came with a side of chips and au jus. Wow was it tasty, packed with flavor and heat! We also had the elote and beef tacos which also were delicious, tangy, sweet, heat, seasoned to perfection. To top it off we also ordered the charcuterie board and while I would've loved to have seen some cheese on that plate, the mustard and jam combo with the meats and crackers topped with a nice crisp mixed green lettuce leaf and a hot pepper was to die for! We each ordered a drink and each was phenomenal. Each of the staff members who sat us, waited on us were kind and attentive. I am so thankful to Chicago Brewhouse for allowing the patio reservation and for making my friends birthday worth the few drive into the city. I didn't know that most restaurants up there don't allow patio reservations which was a let down but Chicago Brewhouse was set the bar and I hope to visit...
