Walking by, we saw that the patio was full, so we thought the food must be amazing. We could not have been more wrong.
Firstly, I'm convinced the eggs I was served were not real eggs, rather from a carton, they had a funny, rancid smell and looked way too yellow. I did not take more than 1 bite. My steak came out well done rather than the medium rare I asked for. Server saw my plate was nearly untouched and did not seem to care enough to ask how everything was tasting. Though not his fault, there were only 2 people serving for the whole patio, no wonder they don't have time to check on tables. My wife's burger was extremely underwhelming. It tasted like any fast food burger would, maybe slightly worse, for triple the price.
After eating here, it was painfully obvious the only reason why the restaurant was full is because of where they are rather than the food or drinks. Mimosa deal is OK but not really $22 as advertised, you have to buy an "entree" and you cannot share with anyone else. So really it's about $45 personal bottomless mimosa, about $90 for two people.
We decided to skip dessert and head out, not before waiting 15 minutes before the server came to get out card back. The bill had a 3% credit card fee, and a $2 miscellaneous fee that I was too upset to even ask about, since it would've taken probably a other 15 minutes. We paid cash and left.
If you're actually planning to go to a decent breakfast place, definitely skip this. It's a hotel restaurant that gets away with serving mediocre food, drinks and service only because they are full of tourists and hotel guests.
You'd think a restaurant called "Land & Lake" would feature amazing seafood dishes or at least be able to properly cook...
Read moreI'm very disappointed that they take people's health so disrespectfully. Two days ago I had breakfast there and when I asked for gluten-free options, they told me “yes, we have whole wheat bread”. I told the server that whole wheat bread isn't gluten-free. He said, "Oh yeah, what you want is multigrain bread." I explained again that he didn't understand me well. Anyway, my husband explained to him that I can't eat gluten, that he should please bring me the bread on a separate plate so it wouldn't contaminate all my food, and that he should please find out what flour it was made with. They brought me my breakfast and the bread was on top of the potatoes. My husband asked the server what the bread was made of, and he said it was made "of nothing," that it was gluten-free. My worried husband insisted the I’m celiac and the bread obviously had some kind of flour in it. He asked the waiter to please find out the ingredients, but he never came back. Instead, the guy who had served us at the first moment came back. When I asked him again, "What ingredient is this bread made of?" He laughingly replied, "Rice." Anyway, I wanted to trust him and ate the bread, but I've had stomach pains ever since. It's a shame they don't properly train the staff and explain how delicate it is for someone with dietary restrictions to eat a food they're not tolerant to or allergic to. The consequences could be fatal. In the end, I don't know what I ate. I can only say that from that day until today, I've had symptoms I only felt six years ago, when I didn't know I was celiac and...
Read moreHere's a review based on your experience: Land & Lake at London House: A Solid Downtown Spot (But Bring Your Wallet) Recently, we dined at Land & Lake, nestled within the London House hotel in downtown Chicago, and came away with a generally positive experience. The location is a definite plus, being conveniently close to the Riverwalk, making it a great option for those exploring the city. Our meal consisted of a classic burger ($18) and their fried chicken sandwich, both accompanied by a generous portion of fries. For drinks, we opted for a glass of red wine ($14) and, notably, their bottomless mimosas ($22), which is an excellent value for those looking for a brunch-style experience. The service was a highlight. Our server was friendly, attentive, and always wore a smile, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere. The final bill, including tips, came to around $100, which reflects the restaurant's pricing. It's safe to say Land & Lake leans towards the pricier side, especially considering the casual fare. However, the quality of service and the prime location partly justify the cost. A few points to note: parking is limited to valet, which can add to the overall expense. While the restaurant was busy, it didn't feel overly crowded, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Pros: Excellent location near the Riverwalk. Friendly and attentive service. Great value on bottomless mimosas. Good food quality. Cons: Pricy menu. Limited parking...
