After reading all the awful reviews on google and yelp, I was quite worried about our visit to Frosty's. However, I have been to pop up bars before and am a Chicago native who's been to a fair share of popular clubs and bars, so I proceeded to go with expectations of long lines and irritated customers/staff members. To my surprise, I had a WONDERFUL time at Frosty's.
The atmosphere was fun and jolly. Definitely looked like christmas threw up everywhere, however I was disappointed in the lack of Christmas music being played. Although, the music that wasn't Christmas music were some good throwbacks and I still enjoyed it. Crowd was very diverse (younger adults like me, older adults, lots of drunk people, all types of people!).
My friend who had a general admission ticket only waited in line for about 30 minutes, which isn't bad at all! That’s how pop up bars work! With or without tickets, you're bound to stand in line for a period of time since everyone is coming all at once.
It was definitely crowded inside, but once we moved towards the back on the main floor, there was more room. We were able to visit all three levels (and there were four bars in the whole place for those of you arguing there weren't). Downstairs was also quite spacious; upstairs, not so much. We were able to move around and dance on both main floor and basement. Seemed like everyone was stuck right in front of the entrance and the bar by the entrance. It's a pop up bar and I expected it to be packed wall to wall.
Drinks were delicious and reasonably priced ($14 for a speciality drink is normal) and we never waited more than 5 minutes to be served. We had two drink tickets and had zero problems with any of the bartenders serving us.
Only issue I had was with the woman at the front door. I had bought my boyfriend and I the "santa baby" ticket package, which included hassle free entry and 2 drink tickets. I specifically spent more money for express entry. The woman at the door kept pretending she didn’t know what my tickets meant and told me to get in line. I get it. I’ve been to many bars and clubs in Chicago and so many people try to cut the line; however I spent extra for the express entry. I calmly showed her the description of the ticket and she let me in without anymore argument.
Overall, my friends and I had an enjoyable time and would love to come back next year.
*If you are unaware of how pop up bars work, don't like crowded places or having to wait in line (to get in or for a drink), or think $14 for a delicious speciality drink is too expensive, DON'T go to Frosty's. If you are planning to go, expect lines and...
Read moreThe good: very cute place. Super festive, creative drinks that taste good, beautifully decorated. It really is a sight to see if you are looking to do something Christmassy. We did not have a wait in line with a Saturday 4pm ticket time and the bar was not very busy at that time. The bad: drinks are all $12 and they are not strong, and small - beer was $5 a bottle for Sam Adams seasonals. If you have a drink ticket, read it closely because they will charge you $2 extra for drinks not on the ticket and tell you after the drink is made. The bar is 3 stories and fairly small. Once you see it - takes about 10 mins to see the entire bar if you take your time - thats it. The seating was all reserved so you basically stand around the whole time and pay for teeny, expensive drinks (small for the price) especially if you are not a beer drinker. The bar tender that was downstairs by the entrance on the day we went was very rude. She kept complaining and was very short with all the patrons. At one point, she was yelling about something to her co workers saying how she doesn't want to do this all and she was obviously visibly angry or upset with something/someone. It was really awkward for patrons and her co workers. Not to mention this is a pop up christmas bar! Its suppose to be a "happy place". For $35/ticket that "included" 2 drinks and a flimsy santa hat, (dollar store quality) I was not expecting that sort of treatment or drama. Overall, the experience was just ok. I don't regret it, but I also will not go again. My two friends and I stayed for about an hour and a half, and even that was a push to stay that long because we got bored and then left and went to Edison Park. This is not a bar you want to stay and relax at, nor do you need to. If you are looking to spend a ton of money on a few hours to stand around christmas decorations, then...
Read moreI’d been wanting to visit Frosty’s for a few years and finally made it! I was so excited. I was in a group of five and we made sure to arrive early to beat the Saturday crowd. The decor was fabulous and we all came dressed festive for the occasion.I decided to get bottle service. (The week prior, I emailed inquiring about tables and prices. I was sent a bottle menu) I told the waitress that I wanted to get a bottle of Tito’s and she informed me there was an $800 minimum. (I wasn’t told that via email) I then ordered 2 bottles of Tito’s. We sat in our section and enjoyed the ambiance and drinks. It started getting really crowded and I was so grateful I’d decided to go with the bottle service. It was almost impossible to get to the bathroom that was 2 floors down. After awhile, a bouncer came up to our table and informed us that our time was up and we had to leave the area. As you can imagine… we had A LOT of liquor left. How could we possibly drink TWO bottles in 90 minutes??! NO ONE mentioned that we were on a time limit and if they had, I wouldn’t have spent EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS for just 4 women and 1 man. The bouncer was aggressive and rude. He could have warned us that we only had so much time left before just kicking us out. We couldn’t take the leftover bottle or pour it in our cups. He thought we put it in water bottles and proceeded to check our coats and purses. He tried to take my bottle of water and I argued that is was water and invited him to try it. Which he did! I’m so disappointed in the experience. I will never go back and I will be sure to continue writing reviews so people are warned and not ROBBED as...
