The Hangge-Uppe — Restaurant in Chicago

This was one of the craziest experiences of my life. I was at this bar on November 9th 2024 and I came with a date after we were at another bar.

We get inside and my date says she needs to use the bathroom and asks me to hold her purse. I'm holding it and standing right outside the girls bathroom waiting for her when a bouncer comes up to me and says that I have to get away from the girls bathroom because they have had people "Creeping on it in the past"

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life. I am holding a woman's purse and I am wearing a suit and tie. I am not here to creep on people. I tried to explain the situation and the bouncer was not having it and threatened to kick me out.

KICKED OUT FOR STANDING NEAR THE GIRLS BATHROOM AND WAITING FOR MY DATE???

I was arguing with the bouncer and asking why specifically me when there was a group of other guys standing right next to the bathroom as well.

Out of the group of guys standing by the bathroom I was the only black person and when I brought that up to the bouncer he had security come and kick me out.

Embarrassing, wild, most likely racist and demeaning. These are the only words I can think of in response to what happened to me.

Needless to say, I will NEVER EVER be back here, and if you are a person of color I would strongly urge you to spend money elsewhere.

Tried to take me and my boyfriend’s REAL ID on a THURSDAY NIGHT. Were there the weekend prior for his 21st, not even a single GLANCE at our ID’s. You would think these bouncers work at the DMV because 4 of them had to check if they were real and didnt even scan them or ask us a single question. Didn’t get let in when we gave them second form of identification and they almost kept our ID’s. Another person in like got their actual ID taken and when asked for it back, they said if was “disclosed information”. Extremely rude & entitled employees that have no clue what they’re doing cause a girl who wasn’t even 21 got let in right after we were denied and she showed her REAL ID that was vertical too. Outside of line, talking to our friends about being mistreated by the bouncers - the short scrawny guy spoke up and tried to fight my boyfriend for “talking shit”, three of his colleagues by the door tried to all gang up on us and tell us to leave when we weren’t even in line. Ruff start outside at the door...Wouldn't let us smoke under the heat lamps on a sub zero night. Mite I add there was no one in line. After finding our way downstairs to the small bar outside the ladies restroom we settled in with the friendliest bartender Vinny. It was a Friday night and not to busy so we had lots of time to talk and get to know him. After a min. The other wait staff started warming up to us. My BFF took me for my 50th bday and I must say...it's not a bar for older people BUT MY BFF MADE SURE WE HAD A GREAT TIME! We ended up going back Sat. Night too. Saturday was kinda packed.
