I stopped by Vogue Tavern for a little happy hour after getting a haircut nearby. They offer happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., with an extra perk on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When I walked in, there was a decent crowd enjoying the specials, which is always a good sign.
One of the things I love about their happy hour is the $5 margaritas with different flavor options—classic, mango, and even a spicy jalapeño version. For food, I ordered the chicken sliders, which were solid, and the bratwurst, which came with Dijon mustard. While the brat itself was good, it felt a bit plain—some grilled onions or another topping would’ve added more character.
While the food and drinks were enjoyable, the service was lacking. I had to flag down a bartender/server to take my order, which I understand since there were only two of them running the whole place. However, when my food arrived, I said thank you, and the server just walked away without a response. No one checked in after a few bites, and when I was ready to close out, I had to wait quite some time before getting the check.
As for the ambiance, the interior has a cool, masculine vibe, heavily influenced by Star Wars—there’s even a life-size Darth Vader statue and Star Wars-themed branding. There’s plenty of seating, including a few patio spots, and multiple TVs make it a solid spot to catch a game with friends. I also heard they’re working on opening a rooftop space, though they’re still waiting on permits. They used to have the best patio on Third Avenue, but unfortunately, that closed down post-COVID.
One highlight is their great German beer selection, which adds to their appeal. I’ll definitely be back, but I wouldn’t rush back, as the hospitality was just okay. A little more attentiveness from the staff would go a long way in elevating...

I was taken a stroll through Chula Vista with my service dog in his big red vest. I recently moved here, and was looking for a place to relax have a drink and eat. I saw this bar that looked good to go and have a drink. I waited at the door for a couple of minutes, nobody came to me and as soon as I stepped inside I was rudely said that I couldn't come in with my dog, there are tables and chairs outside, where if offered and treated differently and respect, I would have gladly had my drink and looked at the menu to see what I could eat.
It is very discouraging that there are places like this with no proper training in how to treat people that have the necessity to have a service animal with them.
"Small" actions like this sometimes have a big impact on people who are going through difficulties, that just getting out of bed for a walk is such a struggle to only be treated unkindly. Didn't even want to try in other bar or restaurant, since I couldn't deal with another...
