January 16, 2024 This time they hit a 5 star rating! We had reservations at 6:15pm on Sunday and were seated right away. Our server, Grace, took very good care of us. We started with a gin drink called The Wasp. It was very unique and tasty. We would order it again for sure.

This time we tried items on the menu that we didn't have the first time, and let me tell you, what everyone says about the Carolina Rice is spot on. The smokiness is perfect, the greens were cooked well, there was a lot of delicious crab, and the rice...oh my goodness it was the creamiest rice ever. Mixed all together is was perfect. The PEI mussels, although a smaller portion than you would get at other places and a little more expensive, had this fabulous smoked tomato broth on top of perfectly cooked polenta. Heaven on a plate it was! We also tried the Potato Mille-Feuille. It is a potato "log" made of thinly sliced layered potatoes with a bright herb topping. It would be really good ordered with the pork chop or fish.

To start we ordered oysters again-four different types. All of them were great. Grace let us take the page from the menu to write notes about each type so we could remember for next time what we liked the best. If anyone asks us where we like to eat in OTR, Atwood would be high on our list.

December 1, 2023 Let me start by saying that we dined on a Saturday evening just two weeks after they opened. We had reservations at 7pm. and were seated promptly by the friendly hostesses Faye and Emily. The interior is beautiful and the chairs were very cozy. The wine list has a variety of wines from different countries and we chose a Gruner Veltliner from Germany that was lovely. The menu is very small, and had a list of 6 different oysters and explanations of their taste. However, because the place is new, they are still learning about how to stock their oysters to have enough for a bustling crowd. They were out of 3/6 listed. BUT, Brandon the manager was gracious enough to offer two other types of oysters and comped us for those. They were very fresh and tasty. He was very personable and stopped by a few times to refill our wine. Our server Alex was also great and took good care of us.

We ordered the paw paw bread because we have never heard of such a thing, and it was very good. It's a sweetbread with a delicious sorghum butter. The ham was served with capers, which it did not need because it was very salty to begin with. The bowl of local vegetables was very rustic, and included fennel, which I love, but some folks might not. For our mains we ordered the black grouper and the pork chop. I loved the pork chop and the way it was served with the madeira glaze and the different beans (and fennel in this too). It was cooked perfectly! However, the fish dish missed the mark. For $37 the serving size was very small. The puree was lovely and well-seasoned, but the piece of fish was so over-salted we only ate a few bites. Also, the creamed greens were mustard greens that night, and so undercooked they were inedible.

Next time we go back, I'm hoping to give this place 5 stars, because it has the potential...

You can name any restaurant in Cincinnati—I’ve had it. But today, I finally decided to try Atwood Oyster House. Let me tell you… divine. Every dish being served looked incredible, and if it were up to me, I would’ve ordered the entire menu.

My friend and I take weekly walks on Fridays and Saturdays, aiming to hit our 10K step goals while trying different appetizers and happy hours at restaurants we’ve never been to before. We always end our 10 PM steps with a protein-rich but healthy meal. Atwood did not disappoint.

We started off with a glass of Riesling, the apple cocktail, nine oysters, and the bread & butter. I ordered the mussels, and my friend got the fish sandwich. We ended our meal with the strawberry tart, chocolate torte, and matcha tiramisu. Everything was spectacular.

Oh, and the matcha tiramisu? On the house. Why? Because our amazing server, Brandon, saw my excitement and heard me say it’s my favorite dessert of all time—so he threw one in for free. Brandon was honestly the highlight of our night. His charm and natural wit truly elevated the experience. He gave amazing suggestions, and even the way he interacted with the table next to us made us love him even more. He was so sweet and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. And not only did he serve food, but looks as well (that haircut is tea). He’s your dream server!

If you want excellent service, great food, and a beautiful ambiance, Atwood Oyster House is about to be your new...

There are few times when you can actually say the 3 pillars of a dining experience come together with such excellence: food, service, and atmosphere. You walk into a vibe filled with happy voices and the perfect background music accompanied by a wonderfully ambient level of lighting. Seating and service were quick and attentive with drinks to our table in <10 mins of arrival. A good albeit conservative wine list compliments just two small pages of entrees and starters. If your menu is going to be small and focused, you better execute well and Atwood does almost to perfection. A great selection of 6 different types of cold water oysters were some the freshest and tastiest we have experienced including in costal cities. The smoked fish dip was served with the perfect pairing of razor thin mild radish slices and leek oil with proper crostini (read: not hard). Entree was a delicious grilled Char atop a silky smooth rice preparation (Unfortunately what was previously the raved about "Carolina rice" is now only a white rice preparation.) All-in-all a 5 star experience with prices to match. The only nit to the entire evening was, as is customary in old buildings converted to restaurants, the hard walls reflect sound raising the decibels to a sometimes bothersome level. (It would be a small expense to add some noise dampening ceiling drape.) Add to that we had a party of 4 (and frequent stop by visitors) seated next to us that were well lubricated and participating in a who can be loudest contest. Would and will return to Atwood frequently!!
