Was the second stop of our group's evening last night and my first trip there in a while, maybe a year?
Perhaps we just caught it on an off night, maybe it was a different crowd thanks to Bockfest...but everyone in our group who had previously been there commented that the vibe and crowd were extremely different, and not in a way we liked. (We are in our 30s and 40s, so your mileage may vary.)
I'm accustomed to Sundry and Vice feeling like an enclave, something really special, a place where serious barkeeps craft creative and/or historically accurate cocktails in a historic setting that elevates the whole experience. Typically (if I recall correctly) jazz or chill music. A place truly befitting a stop before or after a high-end dinner.
Last night, it was............a loud, overcrowded, run-of-the-mill, twentysomething, OTR bar. One of our party noted that the bar surface was sticky. I noted that the restroom standards had fallen (used to be pristinely kept, even when busy; not so much last night). You'll still get excellent drinks, including some unusual options. Three stars for that. But you can get good cocktails all over town now. A minus-one star for last night's atmosphere.
Hope it was a fluke...but last night, we expected S&V to be special and it...
Read moreA coworker recommended this place and it was a solid choice for a pre-dinner drink and conversation.
I can't remember the name of my drink but it was a take on a Pisco Sour which I had the opportunity to devour on a trip to Chile a few years ago-- this was just as good if not better. Remarkably, they actually had ran out of their stock of pisco but were able to deliver the drink just as well with gin. Super refreshing and couldn't reco it enough.
The bartender was pretty friendly- made great conversation with recommending nearby restaurants and of course, providing insight into their drinks. You can tell they take quite a bit of time handcrafting their cocktails and pay close attention to the delivery. Super glad to have been only one of two patrons at the bar at the time; not sure what the wait would be like at a peak time but I can say it would be worth it! The bar theme and attention to detail aren't...
Read moreI had a great experience my first time here. Love the house cocktails and an amazing old fashioned ( I only needed two and could barely finish my second one lol ). I see a lot of people complaining about the price but this place is definitely worth the money, my cocktails taste like they were made with love and care and the bartender made sure he watched my first sips to make sure I'm satisfied because I'm very specific about my old fashioned. For the people complaining about the price, all you have to do is simply go to a bar with nasty cheap drinks that taste like hot dog water with well liquor...you pay for what you get guys...so if your tastebuds crave cheap well liquor and watered down cocktails that leave you confused cause you're on #4 and still don't even feel a buzz...then that's...
