My friend and I were blown away with this cafe (pun intended) :) We arrived on a Thursday night, and were treated with attentive service and advice on popular tobacco flavors and new food offerings. I picked mango vanilla for our hookah, and the context of the two flavors during a relaxing night of chill discussion was worth choosing again. Steve was a kind and easy going chef who was operating the cafe as we visited, and he enjoyed a hookah as we visited and later spoke with us in great company. My buddy and I found the colorfully dim lighting to be a perfect touch, with pleasant artwork adorning the spots between wide mirrors reflecting the hookah smoke, rising in curls as we spent a few hours enjoying our order and our time. The chicken wing order contained lemon pepper seasoning, which combined with Steve's cooking (the skin was absolutely delicious), made for a welcome departure from the endless wing restaurants in Clifton. He brought out our order of plain mint tea, with two glasses containing fresh mint leaves. The mint tea was found by my buddy to be worth returning for alone, and having enjoyed the mint tea there one time before on my own, I consider it now a necessity to enjoy alongside a hookah filled with their Lebanese tobacco. For reference, this is the smoke known as Al Fakhar on the cafe menu. I will need to schedule time to try more combinations of the food, body-warming tea, and distinctive tobacco, something that only can be found in our preferred neighborhood hookah cafe. I have enjoyed Bohemian Cafe each time i have visited since moving to the area, and shall return for more of the finer things to be found here. A consistently relaxing and delightful experience, and I wish to thank Steve and the new...
Read moreMy old review is for 2012-2018. It no longer applies. This place changes owners every other year now. Ive revisited a few times since 2021 and it doesnt even come close to Blackie's place. We had a rendition where people were packed in too close to move safely around hookahs. We had a rendition that was basically a club, complete with neon lights everywhere. We had a rendition mimicking a sports bar. Just... i don't even know anymore, but i cant leave my 5 star review up in good conscience anymore.
2023.12 Visit: Hookah was done well, as was the tea. Prices are more than double what they used to be and honestly ridiculous for OH/KY. (40$ for a hookah and 2 small cups of tea) The music was calmed a bit but there are giant TVs playing sports for some reason, which really ruins the vibe. We also started our visit with being told we cant mix flavours, which is a bit silly to me but i can respect it as the owner's process at this particular establishment. What i dont respect is being scolded like a child for mixing my flavours when i am "not the factory" and told im ruining the tobacco. Everyone has a style and that shouldnt be ridiculed.
Old review: My chill space. Smooth smoke. Great people. Owner is friendly and always available if you have a concern. Staff is on the ball. Unlike other hookah cafes in the area, you don't have to take care of your own coals or manage the hookah yourself. Tea is amazing. Everyone I've taken up here has loved it. I've been a customer for a few years and will be until i move out of ky. So worth the 30 min...
Read moreWhere to start with Bohemian. First and foremost, this place is awesome! The hookahs are some of the cleanest I've ever smoked out of, and the flavors are out of this world! I like to switch it up every time I come here, and haven't found a flavor that I didn't like. The staff are super friendly and helpful as well. 9 times out of 10 I wont know what to smoke (indecisiveness is a common theme with me), and the staff are always there helping me pick out different flavors and combination of shisha to smoke (I currently really love Black Peach, Blue Mist and White Mint). The teas are also to die for! The different chai teas are all equally amazing, but I prefer the regular chai. They also have mint teas that are fantastic. I usually come in to Bohemian to work on school stuff and to just relax after a long day of work. It has a great atmosphere, and always has a different movie playing on the projector, and fun, quirky music playing. Definitely a place to check out! If you come here though, there is a two person per hookah policy, which is clearly stated on all of the menus. For a place this size (approximately 50 seats), each seat is revenue for the owner, and he must capitalize on the space.
TL;DR Bohemian is clean, the hookahs are great, staff is awesome, and the teas...
