I recently stumbled across Gulshan Cafe and Sweets, a newly opened Bangladeshi restaurant in Albany, and I’m so glad I decided to stop in! The staff are extremely nice, and their service is warm and attentive. The restaurant is very clean and beautifully decorated — I especially loved the hand-painted tables and chairs, which gave the place a unique charm.
They have a wonderful display of Bangladeshi home-cooked dishes right in front of you, so you can choose through the glass window. We ordered the coral fish curry, which was surprisingly amazing — perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. The fish was fried first, then curried with pumpkin and potatoes, making for a delicious combination.
Next, we tried loti with shrimp, which also included jackfruit seeds — honestly, one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. It felt like a true homemade meal. The chicken roast was another standout — hands down one of the best I’ve had in years. Every bite was bursting with flavor. Their daal was also spot-on.
They offer other à la carte items, plus tea and a variety of Bangladeshi sweets. In my opinion, the food quality and taste here easily beat what I’ve had in Jackson Heights or Jamaica, Queens.
It’s probably the only Bangladeshi restaurant in Albany — and without a doubt, the best....
Read moreFirst of all, I’m really sorry I had a really bad experience from this restaurant, you guys really need to change your serving system also need to train your employees.🚨 when it was my first time in this restaurant, they were serving customers in paper plates, and the customer have to go to them and ask for what they wanted they never ask to their customer what they really want or they didn’t offer anything. So please once you see any customer give attention to them doesn’t matter whatever you’re doing at least say hello or hi. If you are busy, tell your customer to give you some time and you will be with them soon but talk to your customer🙏 Once you order your food and your dining here, they will give you exactly what you want. That’s what we appreciate.👍 But they will serve only ones they’re never gonna come to you and ask you do you need anything else? Do you want some water? Do you need any drinks, etc. They never ask their customer. Do you need anything else? Please start asking your customer an offer. It will grow up your business and make some extra sales.💵💵 I hope the restaurant management will take care of them and give some extra training🙏 If you guys want your customers to come back again and again😊 Again, I’m really sorry to...
Read moreBeing far from home, we were really craving Kacchi today. We were happy to find this place, only to discover that although Kacchi is a weekend special, they didn’t have goat Kacchi today. Instead, they were serving beef Kacchi.
As I was craving Kacchi a lot, I decided to give it a try — but what a wrong decision that was!
The main star of Kacchi biryani is the flavorful, juicy, and tender meat. However, their beef was absolutely dry and tasteless. To give the beef cuts a Kacchi-like appearance, they cooked the pieces in large sizes, but they were hard and completely lacking in flavor.
The rice was good, especially with the egg and salad. We also had one chicken shish kabab, and I ended up eating the Kacchi with the kabab.
Nevertheless, they could have at least kept the price lower, considering goat meat is much more expensive than beef. But they kept the price the same -_-.
However, the portion size was good, and I’m happy that this type of Bengali restaurant even exists. Maybe I’ll give it another try.
Update: After a week, we visited again. This time we liked the kacchi. The meat was tender. They also served borhani...
