Popped into Poppleton Bakery on a rainy morning for a quick breakfast. The cafe appears charming until you wait unaddressed at the counter for an extended period. The wait gave us ample time to witness the disaffected moping of the two girls apparently forced against their wills to work there that morning. The line cook plunked plates in the serving window with a disgruntled, “order up…” We were unsure if her partner in crime heard the announcement, because she walked off and disappeared for a bit. When we were finally addressed, it made me sad. The girls both stared blankly at us unable to answer simple questions about the menu - their responses limited only to what they had run out of earlier - which was odd as it was still early and the cafe was not busy. I ordered a hot tea and when I asked about their selection, I was pointed to a condiment station and a smattering of bags that looked as if they were found at the bottom of your nan’s kitchen junk drawer. The baked goods were handed across the counter to us in wet cellophane. Gross. Baked goods were either undercooked or wet from being in plastic for so long. Gross. Uninspired food. Depressing service. And as everywhere now in America was asked for a minimum 18% tip for service. Seeing as most of the storefronts on Market Street are vacant, Corning locals are not spoiled for choice. Glad I’m not a local. (Speaking of locals… while we were eating, a demanding guy grilled the poor girls with pointless questions and opinions. No wonder they appear defeated by life.) Will not...
Read moreI recently placed a take away order for the chicken strawberry and goat cheese salad, and the chicken mandarin orange salad. I paid and went back to my car, and thank goodness I looked at the salads because both of them were missing the chicken. I go back to Poppleton's and the lady behind the counter added chicken to both. When I get home, I then notice that pecans from the strawberry salad were also missing (and also barely any almonds on the mandarin orange salad...like 2 slivered almonds). I called them to explain that further ingredients were missing and was told that they were aware the candied pecans were not in there because they had not had a chance to make them... I explained that I'd wish I had been told that, as I paid $11 for the salad and only received lettuce, strawberries and onions (and chicken only because I went back after I noticed it was missing). The lady then said if I came back, I would get a free salad to make up for the issues. I went back a few days later for the salad and ordered the strawberry salad again.....and this time the strawberries were missing! I give up. Food is way overpriced and make sure you check your order with a fine tooth comb to make sure nothing is missing! Very...
Read moreMicrowaved soup, canned tangerines for fruit salad. Such lack of care, meals should not be an option at this cupcake store. If Our lunch was just a after-thought, makes One wonder as to the quality of the baked items. Staff seemed bothered by eat in folks. I was there when the "so called" Tomato soup was taken from the fridge. Put into the serving bowl. I heard the door to the "mike" close, the sound of it operating. Minutes later a bell rang, the door opened and shut. It was passed out the service window to the counter person then to me. It was right in front of Me as well as the canned tangerine segments. I watched the parade of students doing nutritional projects come and go. Oh Yes, I was there and no matter what You try to imply, Your food and service was and is not up to par. I was in the trade for Years. Great way to answer a valid complaint. Deny and accuse the complainant. You are Deplorable. If indeed You're the owner. You must feel proud. Stick to pastries, You can get away with...
