I heard the next table describe their food as "perfect in concept but..." and that is exactly how I fealt about our meal and experience.
We dined here for our anniversary and although it was a Saturday night, it wasn't busy. Three hostesses ignored us as we walked in but then then we when one greeted us they were very friendly. We say at our table for close to 10 minutes before they put it together that we didn't have a server. Our server was super nice and obviously still learning, and overall she did a good job. But also she was unknowledgeable. She took our order and brought us bread before we had cocktails. When I asked about the catch of the day she said Bass (I think) to which I responded hmm I don't know anything about it and she said "well other customers seem to like it". I asked how it was prepared and she responded "there's a plate of pasta and the fish is on top." At that point I just move on and ordered the steak. I thinks he would be an excellent server with some training as she was very pleasant.
The calamari appetizer was really good, but I did wish it was on a bed of sauce rather than tossed in it.
The bread and oil was excellent.
Both of our meals (lamb chops and ribeye) had good flavor combinations and presentation but were executed poorly. The lamb was rare and the steak was med well. The carrots and asparagus were undercooked, both needed salt.
Overall, nothing was terrible, but I...
Read moreThey were out of a lot of items. I ordered the halseys salad that comes with goat cheese- it came out with blue cheese and when I brought it to my servers attention she said it was feta cheese. I asked for a “complicated” soda (ginger ale Shirley temple with a splash of pineapple & lime wedge) and it wasn’t done correctly- which is frustrating because if I ordered a dirty martini straight up bone dry ice on the side with blue cheese stuffed olives it would have been correct. Why did I order a soda that way- because there was no Mocktail menu to order from. The burnt ends presentation could have been better- no garnish just a bowl of meat. The crab cakes were dry and lacked flavor. The French fries were undercooked. I highly regret not just getting a pepperoni pizza. the food was underwhelming, the service could have been better. I couldn’t wait to finish and leave- highly disappointed in all aspects of the meal. The complimentary bread and oil was the best part! Warm, fluffy and lots of flavor. My daughter enjoyed her steak and my husband enjoyed his burger said it was a bit messy but if ever in Geneva again I won’t be returning to Halseys. The hostess was the BEST part she had great energy and was very kind and helpful. I really liked her and appreciate her going above and beyond I hope she...
Read more1st time that we had dinner in Halsey's. I want to share our TRUE EXPERIENCE!! The dishes we ordered are TERRIBLE and it could be the WORST dinner I have ever had, based on my memory. CALAMARI---cold, not crispy, the red sauce made it worse; Definitely not fresh cooked!! Look like leftover!! PORK BELLY Burnt Ends-- cold, very chewy, too much char, not tasty at all!! Look like leftover!! THE PIZZA--claimed as "wood fired", All vegetables including Mushroom tasted like raw uncooked (we did not order the salad), and the dough was not crispy at all. It felt like cooked in the " wood fired" microwave for inadequate time!! Garlic butter SCALLOPS---OMG, you could even both smell and taste like long-term stored, non-fresh, and salty as hell!!! COCKTAIL---I was glad that I got rid of it since they ran out of some ingredient. BUT they still charged you in the receipt when I checked out!! SO Be Careful!!! My final note, it seems that the kitchen, prep and cooks have NO culinary experience, the consistency of the meals coming from the kitchen are poor. Recommendation would be to hire a head chef to get the kitchen and menu proper...
