I am perpetually broke, so my impression of Stomping Grounds was based on my husband’s report when he went in two years ago expecting to find computer science textbooks: “They didn’t have coffee and the books were old.” One of my customers turned me on to the owner’s (terrific) podcast, so while I was downtown running errands, I decided to check it out for myself. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PLACE! Not only is there a wonderfully curated collection of books, but there is an amazing selection of gifty items that are very different and smart. The ambiance is like the living room of an eccentric professor with great taste. If you have a cool aunt or are a cool aunt, this place is for you. And if my husband doesn’t get me a gift certificate to here for Valentine’s Day, it may be stomping grounds...
Read moreI’m not really focused on rating this place, more just letting others know what it’s like as I wish I had known. I was expecting a cute little bookstore with new and used popular titles but that was not the case. They had very old, vintage books for sale which is neat but not what I was after. There were also a couple of cupboards with used books for $1 but nothing that I recognized or was interested in. The only new books I saw were a couple of children’s books, local books, and a section of banned books. The store had a framing section at the back and a few gifts surrounding the books. Read moreIt's a fun quirky little shop. Good if you have a book nerd or history buff you need to buy a gift for. Or maybe that person is you? There's interesting art reproductions to buy, Old maps, journals, used books, mugs, and more. If you are not looking for a book it's a quick visit in and out.
Truly the only reason I lowered it one star is because the only employee there never greeted any potential customers but stayed on her computer the whole fifteen minutes we were there. At least five groups came and went...
