WEDDING VENUE: 41 Lakefront Hotel Tim Ruthven- Lakefront Catering Sales Manager / Wedding Specialist: Tim truly helped make the wedding incredible. He as very helpful guide for many parts of the planning process, and he is very open to the wants/needs of the couple and seeing how it logistically could work within the venue itself. Tim was able to work with all the vendors after they were booked (Tim does not plan the vendors or any décor) and leading up to the wedding he prepped his catering and set-up team, and the bartenders. They all did an amazing job. Tim made sure we didn’t lose our cell phones, boxed up our dinners that we didn’t finish, saved us dessert and brought it to our hotel room. Brought up all our cards and gifts, even made sure that we had some alone time right after the ceremony and brought us our own plate of appetizers for us to enjoy! He really cares about you having a great day and will work with whoever to make that happen!
Overall the hotel is stunning by the water, it really does not need much to make it breathtaking. The ceremony tent is beautiful on the inside with draping and chandeliers, however for the ceremony please ensure that the officiant stands CENTER (whether that is directly in front of the center pole or directly in-between 2 poles). The brick flooring of the tent is somewhat off center with the tent, I don’t think it is THAT noticeable, but it can be a little counter intuitive. The other great thing about this venue is the automatic rain plan built into it! It rained on our wedding day and the only switch we had to worry about was cocktail hour inside and not on the lawn and having pictures be underneath the tent or by the inside windows. Our photos still came out PHENOMENAL and by the end of the ceremony, it stopped raining and people could still go outside throughout the rest of the night. So, it worked out great and was less stressful overall knowing that we had a backup plan ready to go if it rained – which it did! The venue also sets up and takes down all your wedding décor which is extremely convenient and helpful. If you are particular about how you want things to look I would recommend going over this with Tim and providing sample images/ or visuals. I wished that our sweetheart table cloth draping that went down to the floor was less wrinkly along with the backdrop fabric, but these are small issues that can easily be solved if there was steaming or ironing involved. This may make for budgeting on the venue’s end but it can go a long way to have this focal area look as pristine as possible. The venue also looked amazing with up lighting and as the natural lighting faded, had great dimming. The photos came out great and definitely looked better than just your typical conference room! I would recommend a max guest count no more than 170 – we had 162 including us, and then an 8-pc band and it worked and was comfortable so I am not sure how tight it would have been if more of our invited guests came. The venue does say it can handle 200-person capacity, however for the wedding guests themselves, I think planning for a 150/160 MAX wedding guest capacity would be better than saying the venue could do 180 guests.
The Hotel Staff- Those running the front desk had some moments of great service (friendly phone calls) and other times when it was clear they are either low staffed, cannot manage high stress situations, and/or need more training in...
Read moreMy son prepaid for a room for myself and my cousin for Tuesday, April 23rd. I got to the desk and gave them my son's name. Upon checking in I was told that eventhough the room was prepaid they needed a credit card on file which I gladly obliged. I was issued 2 room key cards only 1 of them had been activated. I decided to take care of it in the morning because my intention was to extend my stay for 2 more nights. The next morning I went to the front desk at about 9:30 and encountered an employee named Timothy who stated he was a manager. I explained to him the situation with the key card and he asked me what name the reservation was under and I told him. He in turn tells me that's not the name on the room. I told him to check for my name since I gave the clerk my credit card he very rudely told me that name is not on the room. I took out my cellphone to pull up the confirmation and attempted to show it to him and he wouldn't even look at it. I began read off the numbers and he cut me off and started raising his voice telling me that he's the manager and he doesn't know what I'm trying to pull but he's not entertaining it, have a nice day. At that point I told him to get hotel security or call the police to escort me to the room to get my belongings. He told me he's not calling the police, the General Manager was on the premises he was going to call her. I don't know for sure if he actually called anyone. My cousin came over to the desk, showed him her key card and stated this was the one that worked. He looks at the computer screen again and starts apologizing and stated that someone checked me out early that morning. When i asked how did that happen he never answered my question, programed the card and handed it to me. I don't know which one was worse his demeanor and tone of voice he directed toward me or him implying that I didn't belong there. Needless to say I gathered my things, came back downstairs to check out. This situation was both embarassing and humiliating to the point that I couldn't spend another night there. When I gave him the room cards he started apologizing for the misunderstanding so I stopped him mid sentence and I told him the way he handled the situation was uncalled for and I don't want to hear his apology. If this this the type of person that this hotel has in a management position in their hotel they need to do some...
Read moreMy husband and I have been staying at this property for business and pleasure for at least eight years. It is a beautiful location right on the lake. It is adjacent to a state park so you can walk for miles along the lake. The quality seems to be going down.
We just stayed for three nights over Columbus Day weekend. I made our reservation two months ago with Ramada and asked for one of the lakefront rooms with a door to the outside, where we always stay. The person I spoke to didn’t sound too together so I called the property a week later and confirmed our reservation and room preference. I was told we were good.
We arrived Saturday around 4:30 and were told that all the lakefront rooms with doors were gone, as were all the rooms with a lake view. We were not offered a discount. On Sunday I overheard a lake view room being offered for $22 less than we paid/night.
Saturday night as we left our room for dinner the lock cylinder fell out. We took it to the front desk and two nice people tried to screw it in, which did not work. They said they would need to call maintenance and asked if it would be okay if they went in our room. We said it was fine since we were going out. When we left on Tuesday morning it still had not been fixed.
Dinner at the restaurant used to be great; there was an imaginative menu and wine list and an upscale vibe. Last year they updated the rooms in a nice, stylish way, but stripped the dinner menu of surprises and upped the lighting to be more like Denny’s. The bartender had to wake our waiter at least 4 times when we needed service. This year we went to breakfast and our host did not greet us and gave my husband a menu without breakfast. Mine showed only egg dishes - the delicious avocado toast and fruit and yogurt from last year were gone - so we left.
The shower had no shelf for soap and shampoo, only dried glue where one might have been. The shower itself - and the whole bathroom - is lovely. But there was an iron stain on the tile under the sink that would seem easy enough to clean, and the bottom of the bathroom door was missed when it was painted.
It just seems that management and staff training are lax. I would have given 2 stars if it were not for the location and styling. Three years ago I would have given...
