I discovered Mini's on a whim while looking for Spanish food in New Rochelle for my wedding rehearsal dinner. I'm Puerto Rican and I was looking for a spot to satisfy a bunch of critics lol. We needed food for roughly 30 people and had been getting some quotes for both sit-down and catered options. We went with Mini's after visiting and trying out a few plates, and let me tell you - we're so glad we did. Our wedding was in New Rochelle and our rehearsal dinner was at another location from the venue - they delivered the catering set it up before we got back from the wedding rehearsal. The quantity of food and the quality of the food exceeded my expectations, it was as if we were in the restaurant. Everyone had seconds and we still had left over. When I first came across this place, I was so excited because I recently moved to Westchester county and this was the only Haitian food I found nearby. I ordered the black rice and griot (fried pork). Take this from a Haitian who ate Haitian food their entire life. Everything was bland. The rice didn’t even taste like epis was used to make it. The griot was tasteless. There was no flavor at all. Plantain was good. I was so disappointed because how can they claim to serve Haitian food and it doesn’t taste like Haitian food. I don’t mean to criticize too hard but please leave some room for improvement. YouTube has many videos on the correct preparation on these dishes. Please take this into consideration. I order from Mimis through Uber eats about twice a month. I have never been to the actual restaurant so I can’t speak about service or it’s atmosphere. I always order the same thing and it’s good. It comes with a lot of rice. (Diri djon djon, & it’s usually yummy) I ordered my usual meal last night (Caribbean snapper with diri djon djon or black rice.), I’ll admit it was close to closing so I was pretty nervous that the food might not be so tasty, to my dismay it was amazing!!
