Very disappointing and unfortunate experience. Arrived excited with the warmest of intentions only to receive a cold portion of ice cold BBQ and sides. We were researching places to have lunch, being that we were in town for business that day. Dining options are limited on Monday in Oneonta, as you will will discover, or already know if you are from the area. We noticed that the other 2 highly acclaimed Bbq places closed on Monday, so against our hotel receptionist recommendations, we decided to give Big Al's a try. I have southern root so I know a lot about quality BBQ and what it entails. First of all , the supposedly opened that day at noon. My partner arrived at 12:20 to get us their Signature platter. I must tell you that these must have been left over from the day before. The brisket was tough and the platter was ice cold. They didn't even attempt to warm it up. The sides are subpar. The collar greens literally taste like they are out of a can and doused with vinegar to try to give them flavor. We were appalled. I called back and spoke to the owner directly. He offered to give us another order but at that point, we didn't trust the integrity being that they had the nerve to serve us Bbq from the day before. Even the fries were ice cold and left over. Frozen crinkly fried with cajun seasoning sprinkled over them. Absolutely terrible. $25 wasted and a vow never to return. There's a reason the other highly acclaimed BBQ places open later in the week. They offer higher quality and do such a high volume of business for the area that they don't have to open 7 days a week. If we were going to be there longer than Monday, we would have waited until Wednesday or Thursday to try one of the other places. Our hotel receptionist literally cautioned us against this place. I wish we would have listened. Poor business, poor quality and poor execution. Take your tastebuds and $$$$ elsewhere. Highly unrecommended on...
Read moreWe ordered online to pick up and it was raining terribly so no eating outside but we all learned how to eat in our cars over the past few years anyway.
Wade thought we were bringing it home to eat, but no way was I going to survive driving an hour smelling it.
We got a bunch of things to try, brisket was amazing, the ribs had to have been smoked on the pig, because we used to do pig roasts and it tasted like it was cut right off and finished with the most delicious bbq sauce.
Let’s talk about the smoked chicken….actually I haven’t stopped talking about it. The flavor and crunch on that chicken was amazing. Even this morning I had a piece left and the crunch was still on it. I regret not getting more, I will for sure drive out to oneonta before I need more supplies.
The corn bread was perfect, the yams wow, dirty rice and the Cajun chili fries no words to how delicious they were.
All I am saying is that this food was delicious and you need to check it out. I promise you won’t be disappointed. They have a bunch of other items on the menu that we will for sure...
Read moreThe “fall off the bone” tender ribs were like chewing through offspring that resulted from the romantic union between an undersea cable, and a leather shoe. I grew tired of waiting after 30 minutes of being told “I’ll get to you in a minute, boss” by the man inside the store, so I said, “you are obviously busy, I’ll come back later” then I called in an order about an hour later, was told to come pick it up in an hour. I showed up 1:15 minutes after the call. The man inside said “I’ll be right with you, and I waited another half hour to get the food I called in an hour and fifteen minutes earlier. Then I waited at a picnic table while yellow jackets buzzed around the huge pile of dirty meal trays at the counter. When I finally received my chicken sandwich… it was unremarkable in every way. Maybe this place has potential, it sure would be nice if Oneonta had a good authentic bbq option, but it needs a LOT of improvement. Also… stop calling your customers “boss” it’s not the charming folksy aphorism that you...
