Mother’s Day Brunch- unfortunately not a great experience. My wife was very excited to try out their famed brunch. We arrived at 1:05. They close at 2. We only needed a table for 2. The tables downstairs were full except for 2 high tops (high bar chairs) for 4-5 people. There were several regular 2 top tables up on the “balcony” level. (lol can you tell I’ve waited tables? So I get it….) The hostess pointed to the high tops for us to sit. I mentioned that my wife can’t sit at those. (Arthritis in back, knees etc prevent it from being an option). I asked if we could sit at one of the many 2 tops readily available on the upper level. We were told, “Oh that’s closed now, we close at 2” I mentioned that it was only 1. She said we lock our doors in 5 minutes and the kitchen stops serving in 15. They are, apparently, quite serious about leaving at 2pm sharp. I said, “We’ll be fast. You couldn’t just slide us into one of those tables for 2?” as I pointed to many- surrounded by larger tables full of people. Ok. In this situation. I would have just seated the couple, taken their order quickly. It’s Mother’s Day. There are only 2 customers here. The customers understand that we close early. She said one of the booths - downstairs- might open up soon. But, I thought the whole idea was to get us seated and get our order in? It was frustrating and disappointing.
Perhaps, on your FB page, SIP, you could mention that although your brunch is until 2- the doors are locked at 1:15 and the upper level (where a good portion of the seating is located) is closed at 1. People will arrived prepared knowing that these rules are set in stone.
We went on to The Hungry Bear. A 10 min drive. They close at 2, also, but you wouldn’t know it by the friendly greeting we received, the unrushed feeling, and the fact that we, along with the packed restaurant, all appeared to exit before 2pm.
Thank you, Hungry Bear, for a friendly and welcoming Mother’s Day Brunch.
Maybe look at the...
Read moreSadly, THIS IS REPLACING A PREVIOUS 5 STAR REVIEW I am keeping the text of that review below in quotations. I am giving it three stars now, partially out of respect for what it used to be, not for what it is now, which would be lower than three stars for sure.
I'm really not sure what has happened to SIP. It was previously one of my absolute favorite places to go for lunch in Plattsburgh, but something has changed.... and for the worst.
One thing is that the menu changed quite a bit in the last 6 or so months. They removed many of our favorites, and what they put in place is not that good. Also, it seems like you get less food for more money, e.g., two tacos instead of three for the same price. I would have preferred if you raised the price and kept it the same.
Even the stuff they still have on the menu they do not seem to know how to make any more. Last time I was there, we waited almost an hour (it was not busy at all) and they brought me the wrong dish. They recognized the error and it took a long time to get the right one and it wasn't even cooked right, if you could even call it cooked. I did not complain and tried to eat it, but could only get half way through. They comped my meal, and if this was the first time it would have been fine. However, since they changed the menu the place has not been the same.
It is not just the food either. The whole vibe is different. The service is not as good. The place used to be very busy and now it is often half empty. SIP had it all figured out, a vibe and food that rocked. Why they had to change it I will never know. All I know is that they have lost a customer.
"This is one of the best places to grab a tasty meal and beer in the city. Service is always amazing and I love their fries! Sunday brunch is busy and the...
Read moreI was in Plattsburgh for a night and was looking for somewhere great to try. After doing my own research and asking a few locals, Sip was highly recommended. I decided to stop in probably around 4:30/5ish pm on Saturday, 8/23. I did use the wrong door (oops) but the young woman who greeted me was kind and went to get the hostess. The hostess came over and told me to meet her upstairs but she didn’t lead the way so I walked and made my way up. I stood at the top of the stairs and she yelled from the first floor to sit anywhere. There were a few sat tables inside but it wasn’t overwhelmingly busy. I was the only person (at this point) sitting in the upstairs section. Eventually, the hostess came up and gave me a menu and a fork wrapped in a napkin and said my waiter would be right over. And, he was! Honestly, I do not remember his name but he was probably one of the kindest, most attentive servers I’ve experienced anywhere. After I ordered my drink and an appetizer, another younger couple was sat. It was a bit awkward because they sat kind of close to me so I felt like I was part of their date but nonetheless, it wasn’t an issue. My main cake out soon after my app. The truffle fries were amazing, however, the pest chicken sandwich was not that great. The chicken was dry and very tough to chew - almost inedible. I would definitely give this place another try if I’m on the area again because I believe in redemption. But other than the minor food issue, everything else was just okay - with the exception of the server who was BEYIND amazing! I think his name started with a B (Bailey, Baylor, Brayden, something along those lines). But anyways, this is just my little opinion. Please go try them out...
