2 stars. here is why: there was no ramp. i need a walking stick or a wheelchair. on our visit last night, i chose the stick, luckily, but had difficulty going up the stairs - it was embarrassing and it really wiped me out. the olives in my martini had loads of visible mold on the pimentos!! i ordered a martini with triple olive, my go-to, and i gave the bottom-most olive to my husband, as i always do. the middle olive i took for myself, and since i hate pimentos, i went to pluck the pimento out, and noticed that the pimento was molded! so was the third one! my husband ate a nasty, grotesque molded pimeto! i did get a replacement martini, no olives, but that was and is very upsetting to us. he may have been poisoned!!! i do not feel that we should have had to pay for the replacement. or for my second. my two martinis should have been on the house. there were no candles or lights for our table. it was seven o’clock, and we were seated in a very dark area. i have right-side blindness in each eye, and other vision problems, and our waitress had nothing to offer us. we were given no coasters for our table. our drinks were sweating due to the heat, so the table became quite wet. there appeared to be only two waitresses and one of them, ours, seemed to be bartending as well, and it was busy. the food was all right, expensive for the portions (we both had the steak) but still pretty good. i give our experience 2 stars. very sincerely, jeanette camelio.
addition: i have contacted them numerous times, but have not bothered to contact...
Read moreWe went here for a company dinner with Hyundai and almost everyone was disappointed with their meals. The appetizers were good but after that the entrees went downhill. We came on a Friday night with a pretty big party for a restaurant that didn’t have many other customers besides the ones sitting at the bar. One waitress attended us and she did a pretty good job keeping up on all the drink orders, refills, and food orders. She did an amazing job, I cannot blame her for how the food came out. I ordered the World Series burger “medium well” and it came out the same color as a hockey puck all char in every bite. The guy next to me ordered the same “medium rare” and his was cooked to hockey puck as well. Others who ordered the fish and chips complained of lack of seasoning on the fish batter. But the buffalo wings were good, pretzel sticks, and quesadillas were all very good. Maybe the food is better when the kitchen isn’t cooking for a big party. 🤷🏽♂️
In response to message from the owner: on the contrary everyone complained about their meals that night and at work the next day. So much so we did another company dinner at a barbecue place, where normally we only do 1 during our trip. Also the VP was the one who paid he always leaves a huge tip because we are such a big party and it is a corporate card. The waitress as I mentioned above was not the problem as she didn't cook the food, so why should her tip suffer. Have a...
Read moreI have been going to the Elmwood since 1983 when I first came to Rochester for college. I have never really had a bad experience. The most recent visit is nothing different. It was very crowded but not too loud. You could easily carry on a conversation at your table without having to yell or strain to hear. We were greated right away and just as quickly had our first visit from our server. The menu has great variety from standard bar fare to outright meals. There was also a sheet of specials that offered even more variety. I had soup and a mahi mahi with mango salsa. Very good piece of fish and the salsa was really good. My dining companion had a cheeseburger club - just like it sounds a cheeseburger served like a club sandwich. He said it was excellent and that it reminded him of a certain fast food burger only better. The prices are reasonable for food and drink. The cost per person includes drinks (my friend likes his beer) so you really can't go wrong.
Update: still going strong! Plenty of off street parking. Fast accurate service. Proper amount of visits by server; often enough to make sure needs were being met but not often enough to be annoying. Still a great French Onion Soup, by the...
