Some shops are just not ready for branches and unfortunately Pittsford dairy is one of them. What I love about the original shop in Pittsford other than their icecream anc chocolate milk are the smiling faces, the “need any help” attitude and the overall friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I thought the new branch on Park Ave would be the same but boy was I wrong. I went in there with my 4 year old. First of all they have a slipping hazard right outside where they have slippery tile at the entrance. It’s not their fault that it snowed but they certainly should’ve covered the step in weather proof mats or had a sign. Needless to say, I slipped right outside and hurt myself and my daughter who I was carrying in. My daughter is crying bitterly at this point and I’m trying to console her. We finally got up and walked in and we didn’t get as much as a “are you ok?”. That’s fine, perhaps he didn’t see us. I did get a look of your child is too loud. I felt the need to explain and tell him that we slipped outside. Still no sympathy or empathy. A couple other people walked in and the look of annoyance just increased on the cashier’s face. As good as their icecream might be no icecream is worth the terrible customer service. To me Pittsford dairy represented that warm, cozy and welcoming local shop feeling but their branch totally ruined it for me. Please go in there if you don’t care how a place treats their customers and just want icecream. But if you want experience the extra drive to Pittsford...
Read moreWe loved the original Pittsford Farms Dairy so much that we made a point to visit their second location closer to downtown Rochester — and it did not disappoint.
Although this location is much smaller, it’s tucked into a lively, walkable neighborhood with a charming vibe. The interior retains the same rustic charm — warm wood-paneled walls, black-and-white chalkboard menus, and shelves lined with local products like pasta sauces, salts, and preserves. The vintage ice cream parlor feel is alive here too, complete with glowing marquee lights that spell out “ICE CREAM” and old-fashioned dairy crates that serve as display tables.
Despite arriving at 8:30 pm, there was still a long line — proof that the quality here matches the original. We got:
🍫 A chocolate waffle cone – rich, creamy, deeply cocoa-y. 🍋 A lemon blueberry waffle cone – refreshing, tangy, beautifully balanced. 🥛 A bottle of their farm-fresh milk – as smooth and nostalgic as always. 🍰 A New York-style cheesecake – decadent but not overly sweet, with perfect texture. 🥣 A few Ithaca yogurts – fresh, tangy, and naturally sweet.
Everything was delicious. Even in a more compact setting, Pittsford Farms still manages to deliver top-tier dairy and desserts. It’s an essential stop for locals and...
Read moreLove this place! We went recently to pick up a couple cartons of their delicious ice cream. It was very busy, and although masks were thankfully still required indoors, there were far too many people clustered together outside without masks on and eating. Even though most of the adults are probably vaccinated now, this feels like an unnecessary risk with the variants still circulating and children unvaccinated. We were very glad we hadn't planned to stay, and that taking a couple cartons to go was simple. Thankfully the line inside moved quickly, and the young man at the register was friendly and helpful. We got Oatmeal Scotchie, S'more, and Snapdragon, and they were all delicious! As a suggestion, I wonder if PFD could encourage customers to return to buy cartons instead of cones/dishes with a punch card? Like 15 cartons and the 16th is free? Maybe this would help reduce the crowding at the entrance. Thank you for still requiring...
