The Hideaway has been one of our go-to restaurants for years. Whether for a date night or friends/family visiting Rochester for the first time, The Hideaway has proven to be a staple in the Rochester community for quality food and a great atmosphere. So when we discovered that the Hideaway had a catering business and worked with Arbor venues, we had to oblige for our wedding. And I will say, they did not disappoint.
Max, the owner of the Hideway, took the lead in our planning process. We had many sessions with Max where we went over appetizers, main dishes, and dessert options. We brainstormed about what would work for a wedding of our size (initially close to 300 and then due to COVID was reduced to 175 persons). The options were endless but Max was able to help us narrow down our choices in a way that reflected who we are and what we wanted for our wedding. He was very professional and upfront throughout the entire process. And even when we had to put our initial wedding plans aside due to the pandemic, he regularly checked in on us and made sure that we were not only doing ok and in positive spirits but also that he was 100 percent behind us when we were ready to plan again.
His honesty, attention to detail, professionalism and most of all, his delicious food was a highlight of our entire experience with the Hideaway. From our first meeting to our event, we were never disappointed with Max and the Hideaway. Our guests were BLOWN AWAY by the delicious food, the array of options and the speed by which they were served.
We were so happy with everything about the Hideaway and we are so glad we chose them as our caterer for the event. We highly recommend Max and his team for any wedding or event (micro or macro) and we are so blessed to continue to have a strong relationship with Max and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow! This was an unplanned visit which only occurred so we could get out of the rain while waiting for the annual bicycle Glow Ride to roll. I'm so glad we did!
We hadn't had dinner, and were wet and cold and in need of sustenance and warming up. It was nearing on 9pm on a Saturday, so the kitchen was still open but only a few regulars were still hanging out. The staff was more than happy to help us, and treated us like we were very welcome, despite the fact we said we were only getting some coffee to warm up.
They put on a pot of decaf for us to make it fresh, and were so friendly, we decided to order a couple appetizers. Wow! We shared the ahi tuna, which was cooked to perfection! Which is to say, it had a very brief acquaintance with the flame, and that's it. The sauce drizzled over it and the small slaw on the plate was so delicious we were tussling over who got to get the leftovers to add to our friend green tomatoes
And the friend green tomatoes?! Wow! I've never had any like these before. Turns out the chef had an overabundance of tomatoes and brought these in to use them up-- so this was a very limited special. I'm so glad we tried it. They were coated in a spicy breadcrumb and cornmeal crust, and deep fried to perfection! The inside was tart and tender, and it was served with a spicy, red remoulade style sauce. They were tasty enough on their own and didn't need it, but the sauce did kick it up a notch.
Very friendly, accommodating staff, and really good food. We can't wait to go back and try the fish fry-- which we were warned often sells out early; that's easy to believe if it's half as good as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe inside is very inviting. Nice atmosphere. Easy to talk to your guests. Seating is cozy, if youāre looking for privacy probably not the place.
Despite some reviews we found our servers to be friendly, attentive and quick. Drinks from the bar came out very quickly. Nice selection.
Food was okay. Prices are reasonable and portions were decent. I say okay because I concur with some of the reviews noting the food to be under-seasoned and a bit bland. Presentation and freshness were great. Food also came out quickly.
We tried: The wrapped dates. The umami flavor of the Gorgonzola used to stuff the date overpowered the dish. The other flavors became lost and after eating 2 it was hard to differentiate any other flavor outside of the Gorgonzola.
Shrimp and Scallop risotto: well plated. Good size shrimp and well cooked. Smaller scallops (1cm) but decent amount and expected for this type of dish. It was good but just underwhelmed. The seafood flavor was there but I kept finding myself wanting salt or something to add a bit of pizazz to the dish.
Carbonara: the main reason my wife wanted to come here. Well plated. Smelled good. Again, underwhelming. Needed salt. The dish was supposed to have pancetta, and if it was in there it was minuscule. We both searched the dish but found none. Possibly forgotten and why the dish was bland and lacked salt.
The food concepts are great and not bad. Going out though you look for those intense flavors you canāt produce at home and it was just not there for...
