First off, let me say the ambience and decor is amazing. It’s got kind of a gatsby meets gilded age vibe and was beautiful. Tons of different seating options. There was the bar, inside, the patio which was able to be fully covered (and was about halfway through our meal) and there were even tables on the lawn area. Overall, if I was coming again for a cocktail or just a glass of wine and maybe an app, I would come back for the atmosphere.
I really wanted to like this place and while the food was perfectly okay, it was just that. The service was also good. No complaints for the service. The staff was perfectly nice. We went for a very early dinner due to our schedule which meant that most of the tables were empty (which totally made sense). We were offered to sit inside or outside and chose outside. When we went to the patio, I thought it was a little weird that they sat us a table right up against the wall and didn’t offer us a choice of table. Notably, only a few tables on the patio are set for 2, many against the outside wall are set for 3 (although I think it would be a bit small for 3 people). But given how early we were there, it seemed odd they didn’t offer our choice of table and let us sit at a table set for 3. To be fair, we didn’t ask to change tables, but it seemed an odd seating choice.
To the food, as I said above, everything was fine. We got the mezze appetizer (3 dips of our choice) and the crispy shrimp wraps. The dips were fine. The fava bean dip had maybe a little too much dill (it overpowered the taste of the fava bean). The bread they brought with it was very reminiscent of a large Kaiser roll. It wasn’t really enough for a dip, and the waiter offered if we wanted to order another one, but we didn’t really feel like it was good enough to pay for more of it. The crispy shrimp appetizer tasted good, but needed to be a little crunchier.
For meals we got the chicken kebab and the manti with sides of French fries and grilled halloumi. The chicken kebab skewer was sizeable and the char was nice, but the chicken and vegetables weren’t particularly interesting. The manti was a little bland, but fine. The fries definitely had that “came frozen in a bag and dropped in a fryer” taste to them, which is perfectly fine, but not what you’d expect for the price point. The grilled halloumi was delicious, but nothing above and beyond. We passed on dessert.
As an additional note, the drinks were a little expensive. I got a beer for $12 because none of the wines were singing to me and were all $18-$24 (or maybe a little bit more) by the glass and I wasn’t in the mood for a cocktail. My partner got a Diet Coke, which was probably the most shocking part of the meal. The Diet Coke was one of those small glass bottles and cost a whopping $8. For what ended up being a $200 meal (after tip), was the Diet Coke the biggest expense or did it make a difference? No. But that price for a single Diet Coke is unconscionable, regardless of where I’m eating.
So overall verdict? Would come back for (expensive) cocktails if I wanted the upscale vibe. The bar was clearly the focal point (when we left the bar was truly crowded), which makes me surprised it isn’t a big area of the restaurant. Service was nice enough. The food was fine, but honestly not special enough to be worth...
Read moreWas excited to try this new restaurant. There has been mixed reviews since it opened. Some saying food is good, service is awful. Some saying pricey for what it is.
Our food was pretty good, overall. Meze trio had tiny portion of hummus and fish roe. They were cheesy to charge us a ONE DOLLAR add on for gluten free bread for our friend with celiac (on a $600 check).
Timing of food delivery is AWFUL. We got 3 of our 5 appetizers first delivered and then it took 10 minutes for the other 2 to come out. My wife and friend watched us eat. No one was on top of the timing. Same thing happened with dinner. 3 of the 4 mains came out together, while my wife’s followed 6-7 minutes later. Sides were tiny and cold. Kebabs were hot and relatively good.
At the end of the meal, we saw the owner prancing around so we called him over. Told him how excited we were to try this new restaurant that has a lot of hub bub. He instantly told us that he has two other restaurants in NYC (as if to add credibility). Rather than thanking us for coming, he stood there awkwardly. We told him food was very good, but the timing was all off. He told us that this was the first time he ever heard this and the kitchen was very busy. Then he was gross - and said “So, what are you asking for me to do for you?” To which we replied - nothing. Not looking for a discount, just giving you the feedback. Rather than thanking us for coming and for the feedback, he was an egotistical restauranteur and walked away.
As I said to my wife, we had a nice evening with a decent meal. No need to rush back. For $300 a couple, I will happily spend my money down the street at Aurora or Frankie & Johnny’s. The food is better and the owners aren’t as pompous and...
Read moreFrom the outside, on purchase Street in Rye… I was blown away by this restaurants sexy curbside appeal. Walking inside things just got even better. The bar is absolutely beautiful… The outside space with the open air patio, gives the entire restaurant the feeling of Palm Beach (without the palms) l once you’re inside. I found the staff to be incredibly welcoming and attentive. The two gentlemen, that were our bartenders, (Mariano and Renato) We’re two “happy” guys and how often is it difficult to say that When you go out to eat someplace. The bar service was excellent, the drinks were way above average for Westchester . The staff genuinely looks like they love working there, and I feel like it transcended into a great evening for me and my guests. Once we remove to our table … In the open air patio room … Our waiter “Ricardo” took excellent care of us, And even helped me welcome some new friends that decided to come meet us over there for dessert. The food was excellent. The ceviche was exactly the way I like it and they have an unbelievable seafood pasta. Honestly, I’ve been back a few times and I’ve also had an incredible steak there, which is a main entrée on the menu.
The place has a great vibe. I would like to mention as well “Ugar” (The maître D) who Is always Inviting , super professional… and very attentive to Anything that is going on…
The three come aways for me were the following.
It’s my favorite place in Westchester County right...
