Seneca is a great spot for a treat, date night, or just a nice dinner. The food is good, unpretentious, and at a nice value for Saratoga-- ~$36 on average for a main. Although they do have outdoor seating, the indoor ambience is a touch nicer in my opinion, especially if you catch them on a quieter night. The wood fired meats are the highlight of course, but I've never been disappointed by their salads or snacks either. The cocktails are good, generally creative, but a bit on the pricy side for some of their ingredients; arguably this is more than made up for by their wine selection, which is competitively priced (for Saratoga of course). Jake has been my server for the last two times I've been in, and he's excellent-- friendly and attentive, even remembered me and my partner five months after our last visit, which I'll say is personally impressive as a bartender myself.
Overall, I'm very fond of whatever preparation they seasonally have for their hanger steak, the seasonal salads, and the rolls, usually complimented by a recommended wine pairing. For dessert, the London fog creme brûlée is consistently delicious. The wagyu burger is also excellent, especially for the price; the fries are crispy, caramelized onions are a must.
As a local who eats in Saratoga fairly regularly, Seneca is above 90% of the competition in almost...
Read moreWe were excited to revisit this wonderful dining experience. Although it wasn’t easy to secure a reservation on the weekends, the friendly front desk, staff called us back, and we were able to return. So plan ahead and don’t hesitate to add yourself to their waiting list!
The clean, modern setting remains just as impressive as it was last year. Table servers was excellent at every level. In my opinion, their appetizers outshine their entrées. My favorite was the load of potato pave -the crispy top layer of potato combined with the rich duck confit created a flavor and texture reminiscent of roasted crispy pork, absolutely absolutely delicious.
Be sure to order their house made Parker rolls as well, the seasoned butter is way better than the butter at Texas roadhouse. And I love TR butter.
As for the entrées, I need a larger proportion to feel satisfied, and my son and I made the right choice by ordering the grill pork chop 👍. However, we will probably skip the fried chicken deviled eggs snack and the Paella Arancini and next time. The grilled Orange old-fashioned was just OK.
Overall, we still love this restaurant, and it remains one of the top dining spot...
Read moreSeneca is a great “new American” restaurant. The food is delicious and innovative with dishes like fried chicken deviled eggs and little neck clams with chorizo. The hanger steak was also cooked to perfection. This restaurant would be at home in NYC or Chicago. It’s pretty clear that Seneca is holding itself out as a fine dining establishment and is succeeding. The one thing that rubs me the wrong way and why I won’t come back to this excellent restaurant is that they see fit to charge $11 for their beer and $13 for their most expensive beer. I live in downtown Chicago and even at some of the nicest restaurants $11 for a beer is absurd. Cocktails at Seneca are only $14-$15 which is standard pricing for cocktails so it’s strange to only differentiate the beer and cocktail prices by $3. When you get to the drink menu at a nice restaurant you can usually find a break in prices but Seneca doesn’t see it that away. That’s why even though I had an excellent dining experience I can only give them 4 stars and why I likely won’t be returning...
