This hotel is usually our go to place when visiting Saratoga Springs. Not because we love it, but because it’s the best value if you want to be within walking distance to everything. It might seem expensive for a Holiday Inn, but if you look at the other downtown hotels, $300 a night on a weekend doesn’t seem so bad.
The staff is great and the lobby area is nice. The hotel also has a decent pool and the $18 breakfast is mostly worth it. Worst coffee you will find, but the food was fresh and hot and you won’t find a better deal in town.
The rooms are clean but a bit tired looking. Popcorn ceilings add to the dated look, along with noisy through the wall air conditioners. You can choose between regular and premium rooms. The premium rooms are maybe marginally bigger? We stayed in a premium room the last time and it really didn’t seem like much of an upgrade. Save your money and get a standard room.
The first floor is pet friendly and oftentimes the only floor available if you check in later in the day, so be prepared for some barking, especially if the dog is in a connecting room. I notified the front staff and they reached out to the dog owner to return to their room & look after their barking dog.
Speaking of noise, the hotel is definitely on the noisy side. The connecting doors between rooms are not soundproof and every door needs slammed to close. They could reduce noise in this hotel by 90% if they updated their door hardware.
Parking is free but can get pretty cramped. No EV chargers are available. During our stay, the hotel was booked and we were lucky to find a spot. The parking lot is a bit shabby - basically a large paved over area with roof mounted floodlights that make the property look cheap.
Despite all of this, the location can’t be beat. The hotel has its own staircase to Congress Park, which allows for relaxing evening strolls and scenic walks to downtown, away from traffic. Several fountains are in the immediate vicinity, along with the carousel. It’s like staying at a hotel with...
Read moreI’ve never quite had a hotel experience like this one- and that is not a good thing. I had a a horrible time making a reservation. I called, was transferred to someone who spoke very poor English and after 24 hours never received my confirmation number or an email confirming my booking. After that, I called several times and the staff working the desk continued to fail- whether it be writing my name wrong, my email wrong, my address, phone number. It was an absolute circus, almost comical, but not amusing. In fact it was so frustrating I requested to speak with a manager and the staff would not/could not/ or did not make that happen (they eventually got my confirmation email sent out to me when I said it is crucial I receive for reimbursement for a conference).
….so I figured I’d hold off on writing my review, hoping that the manager would apologize upon check-in, and I also wanted to give the staff the benefit of the doubt.
Unfortunately, the experience was horrible mostly for SAFETY. We had a fire alarm go off between 1 - 2A.M. The alarm was not loud on the second floor, it was a strange sound similar to the air conditioner. It appeared to me that many guests stayed in their room, but the ones who left their rooms directed ourselves outside with no staff in sight. There was no one directing us or providing any feedback on what was going on. We had pregnant women outside, elderly couples who packed up all their luggage and lugged them down the stairs. No emergency personnel showed or staff anywhere- we had no clue what to do and whether this was a scare, CO2, or a localized fire. It was a very confusing and scary situation. HUGE safety issue at this hotel. Fire protocols needs revamping.
Such a beautiful location, this hotel could do so much better, disappointed in my stay. A faculty advisor of our program also asked to speak to a manager regarding this safety issue, and again, no manager to...
Read moreThis hotel is in a great spot as we were checking out the town and touring Skidmore College with our children. Our room, however, was tiny and very outdated. The bathroom had rust around outlets and the ceiling was mildewed and it was teeny. We were only there one night so just tried to ignore it. The service at the restaurant was STELLAR...my children have severe food allergeis and the hostess to the server were wonderful...kind and very accomodating and the food was very good and affordable. We had planned to eat dinner in town but the restaurants were very expensive so decided to try out the hotel. I bring food for breakfast and lunch so the fridge in the room was great to have. Was nice to have a free guest laundry too and the woman in laundry was so sweet. The front desk had told me that there was free detergent but there was none...the woman saw me and offered a cup of their detergent and even brought me a dryer sheet - above and beyond! The front desk was not all that friendly but we really only had to deal with them at check-in and check-out. I did use the fitness center which was spacious and clean which was very nice. The pool was also quite small and FREEZING but my husband and children were able to put their feet in and cool off (not swim...water was way too cold). The hotel is also quite expensive for the room they provided but was okay for our purposes...not sure we'd go back as there seem to be other hotels to try...if the rooms were updated and cleaner, would be much nicer. Also...and not the hotel's fault...there are very loud patrons who were out drinking/gambling and literally in the hall yelling for beer at 7:00am so perhaps the hotel could have a "quiet hours" policy as the Holiday Inn in Lake George has...I know it is close to the racetrack and other entertainment but sleep was not an...
