Chazz Palminteri... I mean... I was super excited to visit here for restaurant week. The menu looked amazing, and boy, was I anticipating a night out to celebrate an early 15th wedding anniversary, however not met with the same enthusiasm as I ate the food. Initially walking and met by the hostess, she was rather uninviting with her stare as to if we were in the right restaurant and had a reservation, which we did. Then proceeded to advance and said, "follow me", and we did. The ambiance was very dark for 6:45pm seating, but the table seating for such a place was so close to each. I squeezed between two tables that had about a half chair width between each, so imagine the stares we get as we approach our seating and have to squeeze by those who were seated right next to us. We sat next to a couple who seemed so engaged in their conversation, it was hard not listening to them and feel as though if we spoke or had a conversation, that couple would hear us just as clear as we did them. I even felt awkward saying anything and rather texted my husband because I felt like we were sharing a table with strangers when this night was supposed to be a special night for just us two. The waiter, I must say, was very attentive and answered all my inquiries. Food came out fast, and he didn't hesitate to fill my glass of wine, 5 outta 5. We started with the meatballs (my husband which he loved), and the baked clams (me, ummm, i felt could have used more seasoning). Entrees... my husband kept it simple chicken parm w spaghetti on the side (he loved it, I felt I've had better from a local pizzeria). I had the chicken franchese, again, great for low sodium diets. We finished with desserts which there was no mention of any special occasion (that was disappointing, since it was put down with reservation). The tirimisu (my husband, as per usual) and I with the cheesecake, which I felt tasted like left open dessert from Thanksgiving. Not fresh! The best part was the cappuccino. Yum!!! The woman's bathroom smelled like someone died in there, yikes! I write this review because I want this experience for the next couple to be just right! Dinner looked picture perfect but fell short on taste, as Gordon Ramsey would say, "Damn,...
Read moreWe were very excited and looking forward to coming here based on reputation and personal recommendations, only to be extremely disappointed, we had several choices to choose for dinner establishments and we choose here based on those recommendations We made reservations well in advance, and confirmed, we arrived 15 min before reservation, and we're invited to sit at the bar which would have been fine, except after 15 mins of sitting there, not one person asked for our drink order, finally We were to be seated in an extremely small and awkwardly positioned table. We completely understand NYE is a busy time, but the staff and attention seemed to be diverted to larger parties. We continued to have waiters and managers bump into us as they served other tables around us. We waited for another 15 mins before our waiter finally asked for our drink order, several other tables were seated after us and already had drink orders, even just water . We started with appetizers The Chaz salad was good, but when the baked clams were served 6 clams that were tasteless, lots of breadcrumbs, poor qualityand honestly left a horrible taste, one of the worst baked clams ever. .The Food was over priced, small portions and quality of food was disappointing. My eggplant rollitini was not cooked throughout, it was cold, the cheese laying on top un melted.it was served with sauce that was tasteless. My fiancé ordered a special dish, Seafood Fra Diavolo, the sauce was watery, overly spicy, missing one key ingredients, the scallops small portion. We brought this to the managements attention, they took our dishes back into the kitchen to be corrected then after 15 mins ,our dishes were brought back to our table. The manager did buy us a round of drinks which we appreciated ...My eggplant rollitini was hotter, the cheese melted and eggplant cooked , the sauce was still lacking. The Seafood dish was watery and scallops tasted like they were thawed out too quickly and tasteless. Sauce was overly spicy and very watery. . Not the quality you would expect from this name on this establishment " If this is what "mamas" recipe and home cooking is like, then Chaz Palmiteri should be ashamed to put his name on this...
Read moreWhat a let down it was. Arrived with a family of 4 at 3pm on Father’s Day after reserving through Open Table.
I thought it was closed when I got street parking literally in front of the restaurant and could not see any traffic in and out of the restaurant. They looked at me with 3 heads when I said I had a reservation. This was fine since I had mistakenly made it for the Manhattan restaurant. I told them that I was ok if they had nothing but they still looked lost and/or uncomfortable. We thought it was us until he nodded like I was getting a special treat getting in at a empty restaurant. Even my kids sensed the bad energy but I was still excited since the Bronx tale is favorite movie of mine.
The place is nice as to interiors but here is what made it poor.
I’m back in the Bronx and writing this right now and it is 4:30.
Clumsy waiters who could not figure out how to present the food with the space on the table.
Buffalo mozzarella needed salt but there is nothing on the table and no one came to see if we needed anything.
They gave us the appetizers and meals at the same time, see #2 above for how it felt!
After being specific with the waiter that my son did not want cheese on his ravioli mushroom, he still gets it. After we ask it to be returned, the waiter says he’s upset since he told the chef….it took 5 minutes to get the ravioli after that?
Had the pizzas, they were small and bland. The prosciutto nor the fig can barely be seen.
The place was overpriced even for a celebrity restaurant and definitely does not live to the motto of that it is the best if Chazz’s name is on it.
Doubt I will ever go...
