I've had my eye on Hugo's for some time, and on the advice of a good friend, we headed over last Sunday for breakfast. When there's a wait, you know it's probably going to be good. We pulled in, found a parking spot and got our names on the list. Was advised it would be about a 15-20 minute wait. We returned to the car to bide our time, and sure enough, at around 15 minutes, we heard our name. First, the place is very homey. I like that. Also very Pro-American. Like that a lot too. Also... it was packed. That's usually a great sign too. We were seated in a booth amid the noise and chaos. Yeah, it's not a quiet, cozy place to eat. Servers are dashing back and forth, tables are being bussed and dishes clanking. All the hallmarks of a great, old school diner. Orders were placed all around and we settled down to chit chat and wait for the food. The Son and The Kid both had the chicken tender platters, 2x on fries. The Wife had the Denver Omelet (I call them Western Denver Omelets, because I don't know the difference), and I had the venerable ham and cheese omelet. Also, as an afterthought, and because I'd read Yelp! reviews, I ordered a side of bacon for the table. Food arrived in pretty short order, and literally filled the table. Warning... do not come here if you're not hungry. The offsprings' chicken tender plates were loaded down with food. Fries were good, and chicken tenders were well cooked without being overdone. Good flavor, texture, and juicy. A good effort. The omelets were 4 egg omelets, so they're a tad bigger than most places. Plenty of filling, cooked well, and tasty. Also on deck was a generous serving of German fried potatoes, which were a welcome change from the hit-or-miss hashbrowns most places throw down. Also offered was a generous bowl of gravy and an impressive biscuit. Centerpiecing the table was a platter of bacon with easily a dozen strips on it. And it was pretty freakin good bacon too. Overall, there was not one single think I could find fault with. Good food, great service. Just a warning to first timers, it's a cash or check only place. No plastic. They have an ATM in the corner, so you're not gonna wash dishes if you don't have cash. Hugo's bumped way up on our new breakfast locations, and it should rate high on...
Read moreWe’ve heard this place was good and it was anything but! the restaurant definitely has that American diner feel which we like. It’s filled with trinkets and old looking memorabilia and has all the dust to go with it. I’d be afraid of what the kitchen looks like. The crew looks like everyone just rolled out of bed with messy hair and clothes that look like they put on what they wore the day before. My daughter ordered chicken strips with fries, my wife a ham and swiss sandwich served with dipping sauce, fries and a whole tomato sliced, I ordered the bacon burger with cheese and fries.
The chicken Strips were bland and over cooked or at least tasted like old frying oil and didn’t even come with a roll or gravy. The burger was the worst burger I’ve ever had. It didn’t even taste like real beef, it tasted like an over cooked soybean burger from the day before and that’s after I seasoned it myself with the salt and pepper with a small spread of Mayo and ketchup. I can’t comment on my wifes food, it looked decent.
And then the fries, fries, fries and more fries. The amount of fries that’s included with your meal is just a waste of food, maybe they could offer smaller portions of fries and the money they save from that they can afford real beef.
my daughter ordered a Dr Pepper and brought her a bottle of Dr Pepper and a cup of ice, not a big deal but you’d think as busy as this place stays, according to the other review, they’d have a soda machine.
And then, the ATM...if you don’t plan on taking cash then be prepared to be forced to use their ATM to pay for your meal because they don’t accept cards... oh and there’s a $2.25 fee to pay for your meal that you have to pay to withdrawal that cash from their ATM!!!
The breakfast must be better than the lunch they serve, according to the reviews.

Read moreUPDATE ON MY REVIEW I LOVE how they actually care and pay attention to each of thier customers. What I mean is I literally come in EVERY SATURDAY. I open the door. When the cook does notice me he already knows EXACTLY what ima get and starts on it. The wait staff will do 1 of 2 things. Come up to me and ask "Ur usual" Or Come up to me with my food ready for me to put my salt, pepper and hot sauce on it"
UPDATE TO REVIEW
Ok, seriously u wanna talk about product for value?!?! HUGO'S IS the spot!! This is honestly the closest thing that I've came to that has that home cooking flavor from ANY restaurant that I've been to. The best thing I can compare it to is that scene from the movie Twister when they all stop at the Aunts house to eat. The portions that you see there is similar to what u will get from Hugo's. When you go to Hugo's I can promise you 2 things. You will be Blown away by the taste/Flavor You will either leave with a To-Go container or with a partial food Coma.
I'm not affiliated with them, I didnt get compensated to write this review either. If you look at my other reviews im basically direct and to the point. But with Hugo's I felt that a short review can't do it justice. I mean ho early this review isn't doing the place justice when you realize the portions to cost and the over-all friendliness of the place.
One last thing. If you do read this DO NOT TAKE THIS REVIEW AND GO TO THE ONE LOCATED ANYWHERE ELSE BESIDES THE ONE IN CLAREMORE!! Thanks for reading. You will thank me later for trying...
