It was the first time coming here upon the recommendations of a few close friends and my experience here was pretty terrible. My brother and I came in on a Friday night and the restaurant wasn't really busy at all since 3/4 of it was empty. We thought we got lucky to arrive before the usual Friday night dinner rush so things were looking up for us. The first issue we came across was that there was no host/hostess at the front to seat people. We waited but ended up having to find a waiter to assist us. We were seated and given our menu but that was it. We thought they were just giving us time to figure out what we wanted but no one approached our table at all for over 20 minutes. We noticed another table near us get ignored as well up until one of the gentlemen walked up to a waiter and handed him his table's order sheet. We ended up doing the same but it was strange since there were other tables that were getting full service and they were seated after us.
Our first dish that we received was 4 pieces of salmon nigiri to start things off. The fish itself was excellent, but I was stunned at how little rice they made the sushi with. It was practically sashimi served over minuscule amount of rice. My brother ordered a set of rolls and the presentation was absolutely atrocious. They barely held together and looked as if they were half-assedly thrown onto the plate whereas tables near us were getting very neat and elegantly put together sushi.
It was so strange for our table and the other one near us to get such awful service and everyone else was getting everything done just right. I never experienced something like this before. We were incredibly polite even though our service was terrible from the start. We gave up because after an hour we only received our starting order of dismal sushi and our drinks. My brother had to go up to the waiter since again we just kept getting ignored and asked to speak to a manager. After politely telling him our situation he apologized and altered the check so that we only had to pay for our drinks. I'm glad he tried to make things right, but the fact that we had to deal with this made it clear that we're never visiting this...
Read moreThis USED TO be a great place in the suburbs to get all you can eat sushi without having to drive out to O'Hare. Unfortunately over the years it has gone down significantly in many things.
First, the service was very very bad. I don't normally say this because a waiter's job at an all you can eat place is rather simple but they have given us the wrong orders, forgotten our orders completely, or given us part of our order and forgot about other parts of our orders. Not to mention, service is extremely slow. We saw our rolls sitting on the counter for what I timed it to be 8 minutes until our waitress picked it up and placed it on our table without so much as an apology or even asking us if we were ok or enjoying our experience there.
Second, the price has gone up for both lunch and dinner but the menu got more limited! Rather than keeping the menu the same or increasing the options, they actually took away many of this options. What's left is a bunch of spicy options in hopes that you'll fill up with water rather than sushi. Very poor marketing tactic as it's easily seen through by many regulars this looking your baseline customers.
Third, quality of the sushi has gone down tremendously. Not only has the menu become smaller and filled with almost all spicy rolls or vegetarian rolls in an effort for them to save money but the amount of rice in each roll has increased massively. If you're familiar with cheap sushi places, they increase the amount of rice per roll so that customers will get fuller faster on cheap rice while decreasing the amount of actual fish in each roll. The fish also tasted slightly frozen. I know others have complained about this here just reading a few reviews but it's true. The quality of the fish has gone down as some rolls tasted freezer burnt meaning terribly quality control in the back room.
Careful going here as it has gone from one of my top picks to this being strike 2 for me. I'm not sure if I want to go back to experience stroke 3. It'll definitely be a long while until I even consider going back to this establishment. If you want an all you can eat sushi place, there are far better choices these days...
Read moreSushi was good. But the service is mediocre. We got sat down by the rude older woman with with bottled water and paper plates. Not the end of the world, they're probably not giving diningware due to covid. I ordered a coke and got a can for 2.00, mind you it used to be 1.50 and you got refills... the food took pretty long, which I think is the norm for here so eh not a big deal. But when our food was ready it sat on the counter top for a good 7 minutes before anyone cared to grab it. The older lady walked past it a million times fiddling with the to go bags. Mind you, the cook rang the bell twice. Not to mention they were joking on how she was letting the food sit there getting cold. Then we finally got our food after the cook somewhat yelled at the younger woman to take it. After we got our food, we were still missing 2 rolls and it was ICE COLD. Maybe thats new norm for the fried rolls. We got the missing rolls, after having to tell the waiter because he didn't know, he wasn't the original waiter. Luckily, we didn't want anymore rolls, you know because it's all you can eat so its probably given people can order again, because they didn't come check on us at all after that. I had to wave them down for the check. Mediocre service at best. I can't wait for Oishi Sushi to open back up. I would love to pay extra for their exceptional service!
