I came here for the birria tacos but these are not the birria tacos I was expecting (the tacos dipped in consummé and fried crispy as has become popularized on social media the past year or so). Their “birria tacos” are regular street tacos (shells lightly?? cooked) with the shredded roast beef that comes in a traditional birria stew. Do not come here if you’re looking for the “birria tacos” of social media. I can’t mark them down for that because it’s not like they’re failing to make them well. There’s just a misunderstanding regarding what they mean by birria tacos and what some people might think there are ordering.
I ordered the guac and a variety of street tacos. Guac was fresh, chunky and very citrusy. Tacos were a good portion size but quite bland for my tastes. As a Cali native, I’m familiar with good Mexican food and taco trucks. I’m also someone who notices flavors and doesn’t eat a lot of salt so I’m sensitive to things being over salted and I can say the seasonings overall were lacking and this was definitely on the blood pressure friendly side of the spectrum. Also I felt I paid quite a bit for what I ordered but I didn’t receive an itemized receipt so I can’t tell if it’s pricey or if I was...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to eat close to home, so I said we needed to try this little Mexican place out. I mad a bad choice when I did. Upon entering the restaurant no one was wearing face masks. We were seated very promptly because no one was there at the time. The server came to the table and could speak no English, because I was asking about the specials and she could not tell me the price. A lady who was at the table where the employees were sitting came over and explained the special and the price. We had to ask for chips and salsa also. The lady from the employee table came back to ask us if we wanted flour or corn tortillas. The chips and salsa was brought out right before the food which was prepared quickly. Here is where the real problem started was when the check arrived. They conveniently forgot to tell us the flour tortillas were more and they charged us a higher price than stated for the special. I have money and I don’t mind spending it, but I hate hidden charges and deception. We will never return to this restaurant even though the food was good. Last Words, TREAT THE CUSTOMER THE WAY YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED AND BE UPFRONT AND HONEST IN...
Read moreThis is almost like being in Mexico! Very authentic food! The wait staff is very kind. They make sure they know how hot you like the food. This is a little “hole in the wall” place. Definitely worth trying if you are hungry for authentic Mexican food. It is fairly reasonable cost wise. As far as the atmosphere, it’s one large open area with tables. No booths. Hard to have a private conversation, great if you don’t mind the loudness, which goes with authenticity I suppose! The service is quick and very friendly. Food is hot and made fresh. Appreciate the time that we stop In for take out also. They have 1 chair there for you to wait for your order. They are fairly quick for take out. About 10-12 min for 3 entrees at 12:30pm on a week day. They were busy at that time also. They seem to always have at least 1/2 full whenever we stop in! Usually if there are people there - It’s a winner of a place! Stop on by Taqueria Jalisco for some great tasting authentic Mexican food! Steak tacos...
