After the experience I just had If I could give negative stars I would. Instead I'm leaving this review. Tonight my party waited 50 minutes for our food to be brought out. In that time we watched the restaurant seat more and more people until there was a single open table set toward the back right by the birthday party that was stretched across the back of the restaurant. We watched the serving staff walk around with masks under their noses except for the man who was especially proud of his beard. He spent most of the time with his mask holding his chin up. I especially loved watching him cough into his hand. Fortunately he wasn't our server but the birthday party might be upset. So, OUR FOOD.... finally comes out but is taken to the wrong table. It's actually taken to a table that was seated a good 20 minutes after us. After the server sets the food down on the table, in front of other customers, someone must tell her this isnt their food because she picks it up and takes it back to the kitchen. A short time later (one or two minutes) our original server (who we haven't seen in since we put in our order about 15 minutes after we sat down) hustles out of the kitchen carrying our food. She goes to set it down and I stop and ask her of this was the food that was brought to the table behind us. She says yes and goes to set it on the table. In a time without COVID I would have been disgusted but as things stand now this is dangerous. Between re-serving food and slack mask wearing the restaurant playing Russian roulette with their customers. We refused the food. The waitress never stopped to talk to us. She never apologized. She didnt ask if there was something she could do. She didn't mention "manager". She also didn't offer to refill the drink cups shes set in front of us over 30 minutes earlier. She left. The next time we saw her was carrying someone else's food to their table. It took a concerted effort to get her to our table so we could explain we were leaving. We left enough money to cover our drinks (nothing alcoholic). If you are concerned about the table who got our food don't worry. Their food came out as we...
Read moreWhen I say I would never eat here nor recommend it to anyone … The waitress we had was not waiting at all . We had a situation where our daughter accidentally spilled her drink but my husband and I quickly made sure the juice didn’t leak. A logical person would’ve offered some napkins or some help moving the plates. Our waiter just stood there and stared at us . She asked if we wanted to order another juice to add it to the charge and when I said no she was about to leave 😂 I had to ask her for more napkins as anyone could clearly see the juice spilled . After we cleaned up everything (not that we have a problem cleaning up after our child but one would think it is a waiters job to at least offer to help clean. She didn’t even remove any of what we need removed we ate with a whole pile of wet paper towels and dirty plates ) , she made us wait for what felt like 20 minutes to order food until another nice young lady stepped up and took our order .At first glance the meaning was so overwhelming. Gordon Ramsey would immediately change that. There was a whole 4-6 page carte. I ordered the “Mar Y Tierra “ dish . It had a variety of meats in it and to my experience every type of meat is cooked differently, seafood, red meat , chicken . They literally took all the meat in on pan and just cooked it together . The meats were clumped and stuck together together indicating that they didn’t really put much effort . To make matters worst I took a spoon full of rice and beans with a little block of cheese the put on the beans, and there was a plastic cut from the cheese package in my food. By this point I was a little flustered and I as ready to leave so I asked for a Togo plate and the check . She never came back after we asked for some so I had to go to the counter up front to ask for them . I also let them know I couldn’t eat my food due to the plastic and they were nice enough to not charge me that plate. That was a first impression and not a very good. Over all the place was not worth the money we would’ve spent . The taco truck across the street is better than this place . I wouldn’t...
Read moreEl Comal is on the left side of one of the smaller shopping plazas. For the uninitiated, a comal is a Mexican or Central American skillet. You can think of it similar to an American's fondness with a cast-iron skillet. When you look at the restaurant from the outside, you can clearly see the restaurant sign and some outdoor seating with some southern style string lights. It looks very nice and unassuming.
When I walked inside there's a very nice atmosphere with Mexican paraphernalia and plants. Many people were here for lunch, to include a good handful of handymen and construction workers. I saw that as a good sign. Many families were inside as well, and the restaurant owners had no problem with putting tables together to accommodate big groups.
As for the food, they start you off with chips, salsa, and chicken soup. The chicken soup was a new one for me, but I really enjoyed it. The server also offered a few different types of salsa to try, which ranged from a green pepper to a more bold and spicier salsa. All were great!
I had a burrito California and my wife had fajitas. Both were delicious. I'm 90% sure they make their tortillas in house. The prices were very competitive! The real question: would I eat here again? Absolutely. I've tried more than a handful of hispanic restaurants and El Comal...
