Service was okay , but food could use some tuning up.
First, the special pricing that is listed on the walls of the restaurant for Saki were not honored. We were told by the server the higher prices on the menu were the correct. (You think someone could take a minute to take down the special on the wall?)
Next, the "tempura" is not just tempura batter. They use panko bread crumbs instead. The breadcrumbs gave the vegetables a heartier crunch, instead of the light crunch of a proper tempura batter. It was cooked okay, its just not "Tempura". Since they didn't really serve tempura, I guess I shouldn't have expected some Tentsuyu as the dipping sauce. They just gave us a dish of rice wine vinegar. Since they had dumplings on the menu, I asked if they had a gyoza dipping sauce. They said they just give the vinegar as well. Really?? The have the base ingredients for most Gyoza dipping sauce which is just soy sauce and rice wine vinegar. Granted, it was a latin guy cooking in the back. But you would think someone could train him in the basics of Asian cooking. A little soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, dash of sesame oil, some chili powder, and BAM....Gyoza dipping sauce. I had to make my own at the table.
The sushi. Well, that was good. And that how they get 2 stars. I just recommend you stay away from the items that have "Tempura" seafood like the Tampa or spider roll since they use those panko...
Read moreMeh, nothing special about this place except for how small and cramped it is.
The quality of the fish was on par or below that of many less expensive places nearby, basically this place is overpriced even for Clearwater.
The tuna was kind of tasteless. Yellowtail nigiri had a good texture, but was of lesser quality fish. Everything we had with crab was made with fake nasty krab. I don’t believe there was any real crab in the building, but the price you were paying is for real crab. Lol
The Clearwater roll was tasty, but had way too much eel sauce and crunch on it which drowned out the fish taste. The Tampa roll and the spicy tuna roll were just ok tasting, but completely fell apart.
It took wwaaayyy too long to get our food. This restaurant is only big enough to hold ten or twelve people at the most, but our food took over an hour from the time we placed our order to get our sushi. The sushi chef was in serious slo-mo. Everyone was friendly, but the service was lacking. One of the wait staff was brand new as of today, so slightly understandable, but still aggravating considering how long everything else was taking as well. This should’ve been a one hour dinner instead it was...
Read moreFirst, I have to say the food here is amazing. The two stars is for the takeout service. We’ve ordered takeout from here 4 times and three of the four times when we arrive to pick up our food, we are told some of the order is sold out. Last night it was all of the food we ordered for our kids, so our food was prepared and we learned when we arrived, there’s nothing made for our kids. We we’re told it was available when we ordered, but then sold out before it was prepared so we are left to scramble last minute to find something for our kids to eat. One time this happening is bad, but 3 out of 4 times is ridiculous. To add insult, the girl working up front is absolutely indifferent, no apology, not attempt to fix the situation, nothing.
Go there to eat and you’re good, but order delivery and beware, you might not get everything you ordered and won’t know until you go...
