We were in town from Buffalo, NY and Frostburg, MD for a baseball game that wound up getting cancelled due to impending rain/storms just as we were leaving our hotel. We decided to head downtown to 4th Street and see what we could find for dinner. Found this gem on Google - Butcher & Brewer (see my Google review on their link) and had a really great experience! Jay (the manager) stopped over quickly after our being seated to introduce himself. We had 3 kids (aged 11, 7 and 6) so we asked if he had any suggestions for something fun to do after dinner. He recommended Pins Mechanical Co. and because we promised the kids Dippin Dots at the game we needed an ice cream place. He also recommended Mitchell's Ice Cream (right across the street from Pins - see my review on their site). FANTASTIC recommendations across the board!
Pins was already busy when we arrived but a super fun vibe. It was a 45 minute wait to play Duckpin Bowling (which we had never done before). In the meantime, we strolled around and played some classic arcade games (some of my faves - Qbert & PacMan) - plus Frogger, Topper, Burger Time, etc. were spread around both upstairs and downstairs. There were 3 ski ball machines (not nearly enough in my opinion as I love this game and we didn't get a chance to play). A small space with a lot of pinball machines (with these great, tall, thin tables between them for your drinks and a hook below for hanging bags, purses or jackets). Bubble hockey and Fooseball plus Bocce Ball, Hookie, and giant Jenga rounded things out. Many large tvs playing classic 80s & 90s music videos added to the atmosphere. But the real fun for us was Duckpin Bowling. The lanes are shorter and balls smaller which was perfect for the kids. You got 3 balls each round and a total of 10 rounds per person for a game! Super comfortable couches and lounge chairs abound as well as hightop tables and regular tables.
The bar is good sized with a HUGE menu. The drinks appeared to be fun and creative (tho we didn’t have any besides the beer). We had several servers and staff stop by to see if we needed anything from the bar, ask how we were, etc. Again, the bathrooms were unique and clean. Overall a great place to entertain kids before 8 pm (as it becomes 21 & over...
Read more16-Bit Arcade's reincarnation has finally arrived, this time joining forces with another beloved Ohio favorite, Pins Mechanical. Kids welcome during the afternoon, but 21+ only after 8 PM (yes, they do card). Expect light crowds and easy parking prior to the dinner rush, but once evening hits people have arrived in force since opening day. There is no food for sale at Pins, but you are welcome to bring your own in.
For newcomers, the hosts at the front will give a quick run-down: 1st floor has a full bar, The Cage (where you'll sign up for duckpin bowling and bocce courts), the bocce court, free arcade games courtesy of 16-Bit behind the first floor bar, and scattered free games like giant Connect 4, giant Jenga, and ring hook. Basement floor has yet another full bar, duckpin bowling, and pinball machines and other games that you'll need quarters for. Use the ATM on site and convert to coins at the next machine!
Tables and chairs abound aplenty to lounge with your crew while you wait for games. Stairs are the easiest way to get between floors, but I didn't see an obvious elevator for those who may be handicapped. The bar has a rotating lineup of local and staple beers on tap. Specialty cocktails are also available, as are mocktails.
Games are actually quite affordable, your only limitation will be that on busy nights you can only sign up for one game at a time. You'll get a text when your lane is ready. However, that means the wait is usually only about 30 min. Up to 4 bowlers are allowed at a time at a lane, and no need to rent out questionably cleaned shoes.
Washrooms are located near the back corner on the first and basement floors and yes, the sinks are shared...
Read moreCame here to watch the MLS championship game and celebrate a birthday party. We showed up two hours prior to kick off to ensure the best optimal table for viewing. As the game was going on, we were abruptly booted from our table at 4:30 due to a reserved party at 4:30 for the table we had. We were compliant and had to scramble to find a table that was a far stretch from ideal viewing of the nearest tv with the game on it. We understood the table reservation need, however there was no signage, no advance warning and no attempts to rectify our inconvenience. As we were trying to find a new table we were told the other TVs would be switched over to the game. Thy took about 15 minutes to occur. We luckily found a table after scrambling for some time. After the Crew won, I approached the front desk and explained the less than ideal situation to a staff member. She was not understanding and stated they were short staff, busy and the reserve table had priorities. She also stated they’re not a sports bar. She didn’t want to hear us out and brushed us off. Not great customer service on her end, especially as a manager. All I was trying to explain to her was they need to have signs posted on tables stating the designated reserve time needed, thus avoiding the necessity of abruptly kicking people out of tables. Overall great arcade and cool venue. Excellent bathrooms too, very efficient hand washing areas. They Just need to adjust their reserved table policy and revisit customer service components of the...
