Stone Gables was exactly what we were looking for on our weeknight stay to the Ohio City area of Cleveland. Free secure parking. Many great restaurants within 1/2 mile that are easy to walk to. Free WiFi that worked well. Free and plentiful coffee available in the morning. We never got face to face with our hosts but they communicated via text messages and let us know how to reach them if we had any issue or questions. The home is beautifully restored. It is also very clean and had a good bathroom. Our room had a nice shower and whirlpool tub (didn't use the whirlpool so can't rate that). Toilets worked well, etc. The sheets and towels felt luxurious. The house itself seemed secure to me. You need a code to enter the house. Then another code to enter you own bedroom/bathroom area. There are common areas. I think 3 of the 5 rooms were booked the night we stayed and we never heard or saw anyone. It was very quiet. But I can see how if it was full of noisy people hanging out in common areas that could conceivably be an issue. There was a fridge in one of the common areas and we used that to store some cold stuff we had with us. The mattress was slightly softer than I prefer but it was not a problem for me/us. There are a lot of stairs. You will have to carry your bags up multiple sets of stairs, and the first set is outdoors. That was no problem for us but could be an issue for some people. We plan to stay here again on our next trip up...
Read moreNot advertised on hotels.com - the Morgan Room backs out onto a deck that is fully accessible from the street.
The main door to the entire Inn is left unlocked and unattended.
Anyone can walk from the street to being right outside your window, or right inside the property and outside your door.
Attempted to cancel booking when we realized property wasn't safe - hotel management took over 12hrs (after we had left) to respond. Refused to acknowledge their fault, refused to offer any sort of partial refund (despite my offer of paying a cleaning fee)
Not good at all. VERY upset with this booking. Reviews made it look good... it was not.
EDIT - in response to property’s reply: My partner and I arrived at Stone Gable’s after 7hrs driving. After hours in the car we each had a shower, laid down on the bed, had a glass of wine each left over from the bottle the night before (which the property seems to think is some evidence we were happy with the property) We left before 10:30pm. We contacted the property immediately after leaving. They waited 16hrs to respond. This is so far from what we’d expect from an Inn / B&B, and definitely not a hotel. They say they checked the door at 9pm, it was left unlocked at 10pm. Is this checking it regularly? Who knows. The communications with management after this have left a LOT to be desired. So, so disappointed in what seemed like a...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here two nights. The entire facility is clean and well-maintained. Our room (The Franklin) is a suite. It has a bedroom with a king-size bed, a large wardrobe, a side table, and a night table with a lamp. The bed was very comfortable. The other room is a sitting room that has a queen-size bed, a futon, a nice antique chair, and a side table with a TV. The bathroom is small, but it has a large walk-in shower. The hot water takes a minute to get up to the third floor, but it is a nice shower once it is up to temperature. Outside the suite, on the landing, is a refrigerator/freezer that serves the two rooms on that level.
The furniture is all antique and lends a late 19th century, guilded-era ambiance to the entire Inn. There are numerous areas to sit and read. The main-floor living room is particularly impressive. We enjoyed the 10 ft. ceilings of our suite!
Be aware that if you end up staying on the third floor (where our room was located) you will have to climb 50 steps. That includes the steps from the Inn's parking lot to the entrance. No elevator!
Communication from the hosts was timely and detailed. The neighborhood is very quiet. If you want to walk to the great restaurants, breweries, and West Side Market of downtown Ohio City, it's a pleasant stroll of only 0.75 mile. You can do it easily in 15 minutes. We highly recommend The...
