What a disappointment. Lost a loyal 25+ year customer. Made reservations for a celebration with family coming from out of town. Reservation was an hr later than we requested due to restaurant availability. Arrived at their suggested reservation time and they were not ready to seat us beacuse our table had been given away. 15 mins later they offered to seat us at two tables, we agreed however, it wasn't evenly distributed so they could sit another party, upon asking if we we could be evenly distributed the manager Barto said I would have to buy the additional seats because they charged by the seat, so no. Questioned why they took the reservation knowing we had a celebration, he said that was not for us to sit together, it was so they knew the number of employees he needed. Five minutes later, a new party came in with just four and they were seated at their own table. That party with the other party at our table would have made a full table and I doubt he "charged" them for the empty seats. This isn't a baseball stadium, I’m insulted he thought I would be stupid enough to believe this fake excuse. We changed our dinner time to later to work with their availability so it was too late to take such a large party elsewhere. He was so unprofessional to yell at the staff members for trying to help the situation. The waitresses were nice, food was decent (not great anymore) but the atmosphere has really diminished. The vents weren't working or on when we initially were seated so the place was so smoky, our eyes burned. They did resolve the issue about 20 mins later with the vents. The dishes were cracked and chipped, they were out of straws and half the cocktail menu was not available due to bar inventory. Maybe instead of trying to "sell out" the tables, Barto should focus on his inventory, plates, and customer service. We still tipped the staff the 25% and the chefs their portion because they were trying to help. They didn't sing happy birthday to our table but did to other table and no picture memoir as in the past. That kinda sucked. This was my favorite place growing up and I talked the family into dinner here vs. the newer (last 20 years) teppenyaki places. I should have listened to the family who still lives in the area. Guess all great empires do fall and historically it's due to leadership. Don't plan your celebrations here if you want to enjoy what you are...
Read moreWe were celebrating our daughter's 31st birthday so we wanted to have a special and memorable family dinner. I had called days ahead and made reservations for the family at 8pm on Friday 3/11 for a teppan-yaki dinner . I was told that our whole party had to be at the restaurant by 8pm if not our reservations would be cancelled and our table given to someone else, which was perfectly reasonable. We all met at the restaurant well before 8pm. I notified the attendant that our party was all there for the 8pm dinner reservation. We actually didn't get seated until 8:20pm. We got our drinks around 8:45 along with soup. We were all brought salads around 9:10. Out chef finally arrived at our table around 9:25. He did his show and cooked us our chicken, steak, and shrimp dinner in front of us which was delicious. The whole dinner and show was fantastic and a great experience for our daughter. The waiting for the chef to actually get to your table was so unreasonable though. We had to wait an hour and a half for our teppan-yaki dinner. The restaurant expects people who have reservations to be there on time if not their reservation is cancelled but yet the restaurant itself doesn't have enough staff including chefs to cook your food at a reasonable amount of time is not acceptable. We asked to speak with the manager since we were not happy with the wait time. The manager didn't even have the courtesy to come and talk to us, he sent the waitress that had been helping us come and tell us that to make up for the long wait time we were getting two veggie tempura appetizers on the house. This will probably be the first and last time we come to this restaurant. We did not receive the customer service and treatment for the price we...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I used to go to JK just about every two weeks (every pay day) and the food was always so so good and service was not bad either. Every chef cooks differently so you can go there once and love it and go again and get a different chef and the food could be not as great. It really depends on the chef you get. Well like I said we visited JK quite frequently so we were familiar with the way the chef cooked (he puts sesame seeds in everything) so before he started I asked him to not put any sesame seeds in any of my food, he said okay and began to cook our meal. long story short he put sesame seeds in everything and also mixed some other things up with our order but it wasn't the end of the world and I wasn't going to make a big deal about it. I'm just not the type of person to be rude or complain so we went on with our meal. When it came to my boyfriends steak he burned the hell out of it, it was literally crisp like bacon. He didn't even touch it and we decided to just leave. I didn't feel comfortable paying that much for a burnt steak so we brought it up to the manager and he pretty much blew us off, said too bad and took our payment. It was ridiculous we left all the steak on the table untouched didn't even take it with us. I work at a restaurant my self and anytime a guest has a concern about the service my managers are more than willing and happy to correct the issue. I was really disappointed with the response I received from the manager! Not even an "I'm sorry about that" or anything. Sad to say we won't be going...
