Longboards Tiki Beach Grille- Cocoa Beach- 2 Stars
Nothing is lasting but change; nothing perpetual but death- Borne.
Just off the beach near the Cocoa Beach Hilton sits a Cocoa Beach landmark, Longboards Tiki Beach Grille. With outdoor seating offering picturesque beach views, fire pits and tiki torches, one certainly gets the feeling of being in Polynesia. My server, Lyndsey, while prompt was a total airhead with a minimal knowledge of the menu and moved so slowly I thought I was in an episode of Baywatch. I started my culinary adventure with a Kentucky Mule from the well-stocked bar. The bar was misleading as I don’t know what I was served, but I do know a Kentucky Mule is called that as it is supposed to kick like a mule, not taste like the posterior of said animal! This swill was horrid. I awaited my food order with apprehensive anticipation. I had ordered the Cajun dusted Sea Scallops along with the Stoked Island Fish Tacos. The scallops were slightly overcooked (not completely rubbery, but a tad chewier than called for) and served with a roasted red and yellow pepper couli. The Cajun spices were on point as the couli was not unlike a mix of hot sauce and spicy mustard and was joyful, albeit spicy, on the palate. My main course arrived and I immediately asked myself, “Who serves potato chips with tacos?” I shrugged and began eating. The chips were stale with the consistency of damp cardboard and a taste appropriate to salty damp cardboard. There is a reason traditional fish tacos are made with a white fish and not a dark fish such as Salmon. Not only was the Salmon overcooked, but the flavor completely threw any balance the meal may have had with corn tortillas off. These had to be some of the most disgusting tacos I have ever stuck in my pie hole. Flour tortillas would have helped, but I don’t think anything could have saved these. Big Boy says, “Come to Longboards Tiki Beach Grille for a beer and the view, but...
Read moreWe were there using beach day pass from a cruise. Me and my girls sat at a table and waited for 10-15 minutes. No one came over to offer us menus. Two different wait staff walked passed our table multiple times without acknowledging our presence. Then an older white couple sat down at a table next to ours and the waitress (Taniesha) came over so fast to offer them menus. Then after another 5 minutes later she finally decided to give us menus. She was from the islands based on her accent. I notices how she was so attentive to all of her white customers, laughing and joking but did not give us the same courtesy and treatment. We are the only black customers in the restaurant at this time. Then my husband and son joined us little later (after we had finished eating) and they put in food orders. My son ordered the chicken quesadilla. After 10 minutes she comes back and tell us they are out of the quesadillas and then walks off not bothering to ask us if we wanted to order something else. Me and my husband were done with her at this point so I called her back over and asked for the check for the food me and my girls ate and cancelled the food for my son and husband. I was furious at because I had to teach my girls that day that sometime people who look like us will treat us like crap because they most likely assume that we will not tip good. However, I still gave her the maximum tip 25% for the food we ate. I then asked to speak with a manager, who was very apologetic and although I didn't ask for it, she gave me a full refund. Taniesha's behavior reminded me of the time when me and husband went to Jamaica and some of the employees did not treat us as well as they did the white customers. So I was no stranger to that kind of treatment. I just hated that my young teenage daughters had to experience what I will call unconscious bias by someone who has the same skin color as me. I was so angry I had to fight back tears. I would not...
Read moreJust last week I took my girlfriend to L.T.B.G. at the Hilton hotel on the beach for her birthday, it would have perfect...she was born and raised in the area, I was pretty proud of myself that I finally found a place she has not been to, the fact that she is beach lover, she immediately declared it be her go to spot on her days off to soak up the sun, get a bite to eat and drinks here with friends or just by herself like she often does at times to get away from everyone and everything after a long week of work. Great location, great atmosphere. That's all good and well but I do have a major downer for all about our experience at L.T.B.G. Drinks were good. The food is a different story. My better half ordered a meal that came with fresh chips made in their kitchen, I ordered fish tacos with fries. We're both so disappointed! She noticed right away all of the food not being fresh. . I normally never write reviews but I just had to in hopes that this never happens again to anybody who is paying a good amount for suppose fresh food, it was far from that. First of all, the food was not even warm, chips and fries were stale. My first thought was that I was given yesterday's dish or someone else's leftover. Shame on the staff member who served us leftover food.. after she served us, not once did she check up on us on a unbusy day , it was obvious she knew too by doing her damnest to avoid us after trying to get her attention, she all of a sudden disappeared. True story. If this happens to you do not be afraid to speak up right away. It's now on record. You wouldn't be the first. Hope they get their stuff together there, I really do. Great spot on the beach but come on now.. with everything being so expensive the least you can do is serve fresh food to people whether they are tourist or not. We are locals that probably would have been regulars had not been for...
