My first two experience at Aroy Thai was great. Waitress was wonderful and sweet. However, my friend and I went there tonight only to be embarrassed and treated like unwanted guess, by an older lady I never seen working there before. When we arrive there we said our hi's and gracefully sat down at a 4 seat table. She then asked how many of us, we said two, then asked us to move to the other side. We said to ourselves, no big deal, it's just two of us. And willingly moved to the two seat table like she TOLD us too. When our food came, we said thank you and was excited to eat. But I couldn't eat because the forks on the table that was just sitting on the table. Because of my OCD behavior problem I have. I couldn't eat with the fork. So I kindly asked the waitress for another fork. Guess what happened?... she asked what's wrong with it, it's fine. Why do you need another one, there's nothing wrong with it. Loud enough for our Caucasian neighbors to witness it and feel sorry for us... She was rude to us, all i wanted was a fork. She then took it saying there's nothing wrong with it. And her and the cook laughed after she spoke in her language and then she finally gave us the fork. I was sick to my stomach and asked for a box and we left. NEVER AM I GOING BACK TO AROY THAI!!! I was in love with Thai food too... bunch of wicked racist. Stay away...
Read moreGood food but takeout only (dine-in is frowned upon & they'll make an effort to convey that sentiment too 👎)
We were visiting someone at UMD & decided to take him out for some Thai so came here. The spot looked decent from outside so we parked & went inside but were told that it's "self-service" only and they pack orders as takeout only (i.e. takeout containers, etc). We didn't mind it so proceeded with our orders, etc. Unfortunately, we had a child with us and once food came out, we requested paper plates (assuming that was normal) but were told they didn't have them (obviously, this was after I'd already paid/tipped 😔). In any case, we had to use the lids of our containers which was not fun with our kid. This may have been one of those few Thai restaurant visits where i was dismayed by the demeanor of their main staffer (i usually don't mind small issues if food is good but, yeah, the demeanor was a deal breaker in this case so we cannot recommend this place on account of it). In conclusion, good food but it's not worth the experience (especially eat-in) and don't be surprised if you don't get any plates for takeout either.
PS: My wife tried to see if lady at counter could offer only one paper plate for our kid to make it easy for us but she stated it's gonna be $2 (so i guess they have...
Read moreI had the basil fried rice with pork. It was very flavorful and definitely worth the treat. It’s a quaint place in my the university.
Update: I went in to order spicy basil fried rice with chicken and vegetable. I asked for broccoli and the owner argued with me that they did not put broccoli in this dish. I explained that I ordered the dish for delivery all the time and there was broccoli in the vegetables. He spent about 5 minutes telling me I was wrong and I was so confused. After a few of the most ridiculous comments, I realize that he is arguing with me because he thinks I’m trying to get broccoli for “free.” First of all, what restaurant owner argues about broccoli? After he realized that I meant I order extra broccoli and pay for it, I’m so disgusted that I walk out. He says “ok, bye” as we are leaving. Now mind you, I was nothing but respectful to this man and he was so rude and ridiculous. I have spent more than $300 in orders with them this year, and needless to say that I will never patronize this business ever again. Who argues with their customer over vegetables?? Needless to say, if I had been of a different persuasion, he probably wouldn’t have treated me like that. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere, there are plenty of local businesses that will appreciate...
