In October this past year, on my way home from an extremely fun and joyful family wedding in Atlanta, myself and my sister stopped for lunch at a Willy’s Mexican Grill and both purchased burritos. It was almost immediately after taking a few bites from my burrito (or sad excuse of one), I knew something was not right. With about half of this burrito left, I got up and threw it out. When I returned back to school, shortly after walking through my apartment door I started to feel extremely ill. My head and stomach felt like they were both about to burst times ten. Rushing to the bathroom I managed to call my mother before the 8 hours of nonstop vomiting commenced. When she picked up, before I could even explain what was happening to me, she told me it was a bad time because she was in the bathroom with my sister who was also vomiting uncontrollably and having terrible diarrhea. Hmmmmm, just hours earlier my sister and I both bought the same meal from the same place and began to “die” at the same time…. For the first time in my life, I had my roommate rush me to the emergency room. The pain and vomiting continued here for hours. My body shook uncontrollably and not even the 6 blankets I requested from the equally horrified nurses could warm me up. I was put on IV due to extreme dehydration and was later prepped and taken for a CAT scan between brief pauses in my vomiting. All in all this, was the absolute worst experience and pain I have ever had in my life. I was bedridden for days and missed countless classes and school events I pay an arm and a leg for. In result my father and I tried to contact Willy’s, finally after days of waiting Willy’s said nothing but pass us off to their even less capable insurance company. They sought for stool samples from me a week after the event. Not was I just offended by the delay of their response but I was also outraged by their request. I spent the whole night throwing up barley being able to talk. But they thought I would be able to provide a sample at this time! The following days I could barely sleep and could not eat due to nausea I still possessed. After a week passed and I was back to 50% health I had already lost 10 plus pounds. These pointless conversations and requests from their insurance company did not stop there. Months later they even followed me abroad to Italy. While I was studying there I had to pay for international calls as late as 10 o’clock at night where I was to accommodate their office hours. Just so I could tell them the same story a thousand times, and for absolute nothing. They bounced me back and forth from one rep to the next just to tell me half a year later they do not think it was their fault and my sister and I would not see and help from Willy’s from this matter. The way they handled this situation is beyond appalling and created physical, mental, and financial damage to myself and family. It is truly sad to see business like this one around and able to do what happened to me to...
Read moreThis is more of a PSA than anything else in case others have experienced the same. I ate at Willy's Mexicana Grill, ATL Concourse B, on Sunday 2/2 about 5pm. I was just discharged this morning from the hospital with E. Coli, which is unbelievably painful if you've ever had it, I wish it on nobody. If you have encountered similar symptoms, please call the Clayton County Health Dept at 1-678-610-7199 option 6 to report.
Of the people that I traveled with, this was the only place that I ate alone and I'm the only person that has gotten sick. Deathly sick.
Two additional concerns: (1) One of the items that disturbs me was that of an individual wearing his pants well below his waistline (sagging). Underwear very exposed. The fact that this is allowed around food is very concerning. If there are cameras, please review during the time mentioned. He was not serving, but was bringing items out from the back. This type of E. Coli that I've contracted is generally the type of E. coli that comes from FECAL CONTAMINATION of food (I'll let you imagine the rest), but is not usually reported. (2) The next concern, which is unrelated but will mention while I'm here, the cashier "gifted" the food to the guy in front of me (airport employee I'm guessing) and told the guy to act like he's making a transaction because of...
Read moreI was on a trip heading to Alaska and figured it was probably best to get a little something since they no longer really feed you on the plane any more. I had never been to a Willy's Mexicana Grill before and out of all the options that I saw there (even more so since I'm not much of a breakfast person) Willy's was the best option. They were offering both breakfast and non-(traditionally) breakfast items. I elected to get a non-breakfast bowl. If you have been to Moe's, Chipotle, Dos Bros, or anything like that...that's Willy's. It's basically the same thing as those. Same cat, just a different name. I got the steak bowl and a drink. Shockingly enough, it really wasn't any more expensive than what I would expect in store outside of the airport. Total was under $18. The fella working behind the counter was friendly and courteous. He made the bowl like he would have made it for himself. I would definitely consider eating from here again even though I'm not a big fan of this type of food. The price and options available (at breakfast time/hours) definitely influence that. The over all flavor...wasn't bad overall, but it was exactly what I expected. The steak had that stale...cardboard type of flavor and the rest was about average. They offer a...
